When I was finishing university the Rock and Austin were at their peak in the WWE.... those guys knew how to work a crowd. Part of the reason that wrestling sucks so horribly right now is that none of the new talent can do that....

Gotta give the Rock credit... he's still got it.

i gotta agree with you about the new talent, then again i think they rushed most of the new talent to replace the old guys but seeing the rock back wanted me to witness one last austin vs rock match.

As the years have gone on, the WWE has exerted more control over their talent. Gone are the days of these lovable, unpredictable, psychotic buffoons running around every week, causing havoc in the ring and on the road. Vince doesn't want the aggravation anymore and it shows in the tightness and dullness of the performers. He has very little competition too. Also, HHH destroyed a large chunk of the business. The viewership is down to 3.4 from the high 8's in the late 90's.

What did he do?

I'm confused as to why Vince would take that approach.... IMO the product in the ring was FAR better 20 years ago or so before the age of PPV and a major event every damn month. Storylines used to be built up for 6-8 months... there was some anticipation there... and guys seemed to know that it was as much about mic skills as it was about athletic talent. Now guys just think that all they have to do is fly through tables and kill each in order to be considered "a good wrestler". I kinda blame Mick Foley for that.

Wasn't Cena the shit just a while ago?
I don't pay attention but how did the transition happen? In the video he sounds like the new Kurt Angle

Finally the Rock has come back to Monday. Night. Raw!!! I started watching when Stone Cold, The Rock and Mankind were headliners. I still tune in every now and then, and just like the episode where Seymour Skinner is exposed as a fraud ruined the Simpsons, John Cena has ruined the WWE. Then again, the entire organization became pretty docile after WCW's decline.

WWE has no competition, they have no WCW to challene them so I guess they feel that they dont need to perform dangerous stunts like in the past

Vince's wife was running for senate, so they had to make it more kid friendly
and there's no more competition, they take wrestlers from reality shows now

and isn't Cena out of wrestling now?

A lot of insiders think Vince is just kinda tired of the whole thing. Also, the writing has really changed. Before, you'd have a match booker like Pat Patterson who worked with the writers - someone like Vince Russo - to create the angles and storylines. Now they've only got writers and they're not necessarily of the business. So it's just dumb writing by people who don't understand things. They started the monthly PPV's in 1996 I believe and that was the beginning of a really hot era.

HHH held a lot of talent back. The vast majority of ex-WWE-ers complain about it in shoot interviews. He'd bury young talent and whenever he took time off, he'd have his friend Shawn become the champ to kind of hold it in his place. He married into the family and will take over once Vince is finished. He's obsessed with his legacy.
