it's funny that you mention that show. I used to like it when i first noticed it on the air some time ago. since then i've found the guy uber annoying and quite the douche.

I've never had a dog myseld, but to me it seemed like some of the things the host would say made sense. A friend of mine who has a dog however, says the show and the host do not handle the dogs well.

what caused you to crap on the show trane?

the guy is just such a smarmy douche. he's not a bad dog trainer, per se, but he blames every situation on a relationship issue between the couple that own the dog. now sometimes this can be the case, but not every time... and if something is wrong with your relationship, should you really take advice from a tv show dog trainer??

For me?

Bachelor/Bachelorette

Big Brother

America's Top Model

All shows that I cannot freaking stand. Little to no redeemable value at all. Pure sensationalism.
no one is disrespected the art form of dance, torap... there are 10 pin bowlers out there that are showcasing a ton of talent as well, but that doesn't make for good tv... the show is terrible, incredibly shallow, full of idiots, and the judges are unbearable. the fact that there are good athletes and dancers involved doesn't make up for that in any way, imo. the show just gives me a headache. i feel compelled to leave the room when it is being watched.

Hmmm.... I'd have to disagree with all of those points (although SOME of the judges can be too much at times). The American version is very well done (production-wise). The "shallowness"? I don't get that either. I've never seen a person NOT make the Top 20 just because they might be ugly. They look for talent more than anything else. As for the "idiots"... who? The judges? The dancers? The crowd?

Comparing this to bowling is fairly harsh considering the amount of physical ability and endurance that it takes to pull those routines off.

ANYONE can be a great bowler.... not so for a dancer.

There is a certain kind of bad TV that I was very drawn to for a while. I guess considering that I still watch Big Brother, a bit of that lives on inside of me. One aspect of enjoying badness is that it allows me to feel that TV doesn't hold too much power over me. I grew up pre-color, and TV literally left me in a hypnotic state from a very early age. And it was not a good thing. So many game shows. Then shit like Sesame Street came along and people felt like there was this good side to having your kids entranced. That just gave the medium way too much power. Pee Wee Herman completed the cycle for me personally, offering a perfect ironic eye to stare down the the need for the medium to sedate and control. He brought good and bad TV into a perfect union, and then by the time he was done, the internet was there to replace my need for the constant drip of inanity while reaching for an increased awareness that television fed like an addiction.

I believe the shallowness 'trane may be referring to is the fact that for the women dancers to be considered good dancers initially, or to evoke a response, some type of stripper routine must be done. I sadly watched 10 minutes of the episode on Sunday and the routines of the women along with the cries of the men and the comments on the men, led me to believe that they were simply viewing them as sex objects more than great dancers.

I can understand where you're coming from, but women are supposed to be sexy when they dance. In a paired dance the man is more reserved, but is the stronger of the two and is supposed to lead the woman; the woman is asked to bring the sexiness and the flair to give the dance a sexy edge. A sex "object" might not be the most appropriate term but if a woman is evoking those sorts of responses from the male judges she's doing her job.

Earlier on in the show an extremely talented, and very flexible, girl was cut because the judges felt her moves were too "stripper-like."
