Question Winter Tires

Yo -

I need to buy my first set of winter tires, and I just want the best bang for my buck. The easy thing to do would be to go to the Honda dealership and buy from there (I own a 2012 Honda) but I know I'm going to pay a premium for those tires.

I know there's a couple threads from a few years ago on winter tires, but I'm starting a new thread in case people have new opinions/perspectives/experiences since then. I just want some quality tires without paying an exorbitant amount for them. Thanks in advance

Falcon tires & Viking tires for the price are quite good. I would recommend both

You want decent winter tires at a good price look up Hankook. sometimes cdn tire has a sku that fits Honda's. I've been running my Hankooks for 3 seasons now can't complain still have plenty of rubber

My wife drives a Honda Civic DX and she loves her Michelin xice. I believe they were on the pricey side and were highly recommended.

I drive on Hankook. I prefer hers to mine.

I would too but for bang for the buck Hankook hands down. It'll prob cost you around 4 bills to run Hankooks and well xice much more. When I throw on my Hankooks I can't wait for the day to put my Toyo's back on heh

I drive an Acura RSX. I found 4 winters on rims for $400 on Kijiji. Dang near brand new. Might as well start there.

winter tires are pretty expensive unfortunately. the good thing is that they'll last you 5-10 years if you take care of them. so they are worth it in the long run... just hit you hard up front.
the tires will run you 100+ each... with the really good tires costing upwards of 140.
the kicker is the rims. you will need to be rims to go along with the tires, and even the cheapest ones will be 50 each... so right there its gonna cost 200 for the set.

if you're really hard for cash and dont mind buying used, check out kijiji (like raptorman suggested). theres usually good deals on there.

All the ones listed are good. The X-ice ones are pretty dope. Look into Goodyear Nordics, those are one the cheaper side.

Lol yeah they`re not bad for the price. I use em cause the others were far too expensive for me and they have served me well. They are perfectly fine for Southern Ontario. Maybe up north you would wanna go with Blizzaks or something

i like the sounds of this but kijiji kind of sketches me out. i'm assuming you went to the dude's place and checked them out, then decided whether or not you wanted to buy them? if i'm buying used, i'm not sure what to look for in terms of how worn down it is, what the quality is like, etc. Any tips?

i might end up going with the nordics, if i decide to buy new. i don't plan on doing any driving up north anytime soon.

for any used tire you gotta check for holes, cracks, and the amount of tread left

Yes. Go to the guys house. Of course you can refuse to buy them. Generally people dont rip you off if you are at their house. Be weary if he wants to meet you somewhere...although his place of work would suffice.

Lots of people have their winter tires for cars they no longer own and just want to get rid of them.
