Default Who is your favorite guitarist.

I know there are a lot of guitar and music guys here, so i am curious.

Who is your favorite guitarist?

Feel free to mention guitarists that you like and what not, but you must pick one and only one as your favorite.

I'll start.
I appreciate the skills of George Harrison, John Lennon (George was clean, john was dirty), Brian Jones, Pete Townshend, the lead guitarist from "them" - don't know his name, Graham Coxon, Binky Griptite, and of course the legendary Paul Weller.

But my favorite is Johnny Marr. dude was good!

Off the top of my head Jimmi hendrix, Jeff Beck, Jonny Greenwood, David Gilmore for rock, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Buddy Guy for blues, Mike stern, john scolfield, Pat Metheny for Jazz, Paco De Lucia and Tomatito for Flamenco.

On the top always will be Hendrix.

Im sure Im forgetting someone though.

my dad.
back in the days in trinidad he was a legend... he told me about all his groupies.
when i was younger, i used to wake up every sunday morning to him jamming away on his flamenco guitar... i'd lie awake all morning in my bed listening to him jam.
its one of my great memories from my childhood.

there are many guitarists I enjoy listening to
Hendrix would have to be #1 based on overall work and contribution
but I could easily be swayed

For me it's:

Hendrix #1.
BB King #2.
And Santana #3.

Those 3 can do the most with the fewest notes... so much emotion put into it. I don't like the music of these new fusion guitarists like satriani, vai, gilbert, (malmsteen)... those guys. They fit 100 notes in a 5 second span... impressive... but not my taste.

I definitely used my Micro POG (Octave Pedal) and probably the Psilocybe (phaser).

I didn't realise how long that song dragged on.

It's all pretty much improvised...definitely not one of our better versions.

I like the solo though.

unquestionably kenny burrell. incredible range, and the butteriest of buttery tones.

I can easily confuse phaser+octave with envelope really. Depends on the envelope too.

I love Stevie's version of Little Wing.

Makes my cry.

There's have been so many great players that I think you can take a little bit from anybody really and go...wow that cat is good.

If I had to pick a few rock/pop guys off of the top of my head I'd say Terry Kath, Daniel Lanois, Mike Campbell, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young...

Merle Travis as an oldie.

Brian May and Prince as the guitar heroes.

And Caetano Veloso is someone whose stylings I love to return to again and again.

Danny Gatton was pretty good.

I saw Billy Idol in concert and Steve Stevens was awesome too.

I like the usually suspects - Jimmy Page for his riffs and Pete Townshend for his chords. I also like Jonny Greenwood, Tom Verlaine, Daniel Lanois and Nels Cline - all guys who use their fingers for their sound.

1:54 is a great Nels solo...
