This teacher told this kid to tell her his name. The kid walked away. Woman went to the office and shit happened.

I think for school you abide by rules that may violate your freedom? Just curious cuz I'm going to bark lake for summer camp and don't want to go swimming or kayaking.

Well you don't have to do what they say since you paid for camp. But I don't think your parents would be happy if they call. Of course they can also kick you out of camp.

Unless you can get your parents to excuse you from those activities.

Like school, a teacher can force you to do something or they'll call the principal for defying authority.

Are you just planning to refuse to kayak and swim or doing more things?

If it's just that then just tell your counselors that you do not want to participate instead of being confrontational. Or as I suggested get your parents to excuse you.

Personally I don't get in trouble with teachers. Usually what they asking are reasonable, and I comply. I had no real reason to be confrontational.

I'd say clarify with them that you don't wanna do it, or suck it up and do it.

why wouldn't you want to swim or go kayaking? Kayaking is very fun and super easy to pick up.

Kayaking is an awesome past time/sport. I have done it in the atlantic through caves and near whales. Most excellent experience.

Do you have a reason why you wont swim. Is it body issues? IF so, i say suck it up buttercup. Lots of fat people out there.

Dude,

the teacher isn't the issue. The issue is you. You have to really figure out why you don't want to do the things that you are being asked to do. Once you figure that out and you really think about it, it might not be so hard to step out of your normal comfort level and try something new.

Be brave young man!!! Be Brave!

You'll be amazed by the results.

This.

Let me tell you something, I worked at a summer camp for YEARS. I did all the activities when I was younger as a camper but there were obviously some I did not like (canoeing being primary, arts and crafts being 2nd).

After many years I've actually mastered canoeing (I have my Orca D or whatever the highest level is, I don't care). It is now one of my favorite skills because it allows me to go on canoe trips with my buddies and I can do whitewater and all that!

You never know what will be useful and you never know what you will like. This is an opportunity to learn something and get acquianted.

When I worked at the camp when I was older, all I would talk about is how I wish I got to do all the activities there now (even arts and crafts!) because you NEVER get those kind of free opportunities again.

Take advantage of your time! You only get so much.

th3answ3r, you sound a bit like I did when I was younger. I didn't want to do anything. For me, it was out of fear, shyness, and the feeling that everyone else was better than me (so I'd always feel like a failure).

Do yourself a favour and get out of that habit NOW. Do things that scare you, do new things that you may think you're not interested in. Just DO things in general.

Otherwise, you'll kick yourself when you're older. I'm still going back and trying all the things I passed on when I was younger. The only real way to see what you like, and what you're good at? Do a bit of everything.

Take advantage of opportunities that present themselves.

Going to summer camp and not wanting to swim is like putting a condom on and not wanting to have sex. Seriously isn't half their time spent swimming and doing water activities? Why go to camp?

It's funny, they always warn parents like "who is your kid talking to on the internet" OOOOoooh and make it terrible.

Some pretty damn good advice in this thread I think haha

It's part of the package and there are no refunds. I know for a fact that I hate swimming. Why put my life in danger for something I'm not gonna have fun with. This program has ruined my summer. Honestly its like 2 months of summer school and all these hikes and camps.

On a seriousnote I think I have tinnitus My right ear keeps hearing this wind sound. Annoying and has been there for a day. Can you swim with that? I'm sitting in my house and it's like I'm at a subway station

the possibility of tinnitis in your ear is not serious compared with your unwillingness to try new things. you should listen to the people here that are giving you good advice.

your life is not in danger swimming at a camp. there are lifeguards to protect you, and massive liability suits if they fuck it up. it is an opportunity to learn, and one you should take. i can promise that an adult that can't swim is in more danger than a child learning how to swim. one day there won't be people to protect and teach you.

It appears to me that we're all wasting our advice. Too bad, really.
