AMC announced today that it has renewed The Walking Dead for a fifth season. The number one show on television among adults 18-49, The Walking Dead returned for a fourth season earlier this month and the premiere episode set a new record for the series, delivering 20.2 million viewers, live+3, and 13.2 million adults 18-49, a new record for any non-sports cable telecast.

“We are very happy to make what has to be one of the most anti-climactic renewal announcements ever: The Walking Dead is renewed for a fifth season,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “This is a show that has erased traditional distinctions between cable and broadcast. Its expanding base of passionate fans has grown every season, most recently — and most notably — with the season four premiere earlier this month, which broke viewership records for the series and became the biggest non-sports telecast in cable history. On behalf of the incredible team on both sides of the camera, thank you to the fans and here’s to more Dead.”

For Season 5, Scott Gimple will return as the series’ showrunner along with executive producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse. AMC also recently announced that it is developing a companion series to The Walking Dead, based on a new story and new characters from Robert Kirkman.

Worst episode of the season so far. 90% of the episode was filler material.

It was the right call. 3 questionable decisions made by her in the last little while "for the good of the group".

1) Teaching the kids to kill without permission of the parents

2) Killing 2 group members in cold blood

3) Asking the new kids to help search the area (in spite of the fact that they were in no condition to do anything).

I wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her.

Oh yeah... have to say that I laughed pretty hard when they came across that girl's leg and then saw the zombies eating her about 100ft away. How the fark did her leg get all the way over there???

See, I like episodes like this once in a while. I like when they're on the road out of the prison. Besides you always get an episode like this a month into the season. One thing a friend of mine said that made me laugh was "three black characters in one car......someone is gonna die"....

i'm not a devotee of the TWD but i liked that episode. the show is turning into a character study at times (i just wish it were better written and acted, but i gave up on that some time ago). everyone is losing it right now, which is probably what would happen under extreme stress. what happens to the group dynamic when individuals are all spinning in different directions? whither leadership?

carol is probably not equipped to lead (although has certainly come into being able to defend herself and look out for others despite the obvious toll on her emotional well-being) but she did say something telling to rick - 'you can be a farmer, but you can't just be a farmer'. herschel echos that by always saying that they all have their jobs. they are setting up the end result of rick's deterioration as a leader in the previous season. he lost his mind before anyone else, but has brought it back under control. can he lead the others out of their issues? can he bring the group back from the brink? what will happen to his sanity as he takes more of that leadership role back? how will the carol banishment impact the group's ability to listen?

my bro pointed out to me that everyone keeps just having the same conversation: 'my life used to be like x, but it's so hard now, what with all the zombies and shit...' but each person is dealing with that in a different way. i find this more interesting than just waiting for the zombie attack each episode. this stuff isn't filler, it's the psychological centre of the show.

The kids have to learn how to kill so that they can keep themselves from getting killed. I don't see anything wrong with that. As for asking the new couple to search the area, it wasn't even entirely Carol's fault because they forcefully volunteered to help. Only the strong survive.

About the leg, I'm going to go into speculation here and say that another group killed her and kidnapped her boyfriend since he knows that Rick guys are living in a prison. Maybe it could be the governor?

Sure, but it needs to be open dialogue with the parents unless they are parentless. And she shouldn't keep it from the rest of the group or ask Carl to lie to his father about it.

Exactly this. ^^^

I can understand Carol's rationale... but her execution (no pun intended) leaves a lot to be desired.

If you're going to make big decisions like that then at least have the balls to stand behind them. Don't cower and hide.

Carl has essentially done nothing this season. He's been far more bearable this season than last season. lol
