Default VW owners help (spark plugs)

Hey i know some of you here own or have owned a VW auto-car.

I think i need to change my spark plugs (as my engine isn't revving with the consistency that i would like). anyways, in all the other cars i've owned, changing spark plugs is simple - no big deal.

but with the 2000 Jetta that i now have, the spark plugs are ridiculously located. They are underneith this somewhat complex engine component that i'm assuming i'd have to take apart just to access the plugs.

I don't think this diagram is my exact engine, but see that "intestinal" looking white thing in the middle. yeah i gotta take that off.

anyways, have any of you done this in the past? I want to do it myself, but i'm now wondering if i should take it to a shop.

VW's are ridiculously complicated imo. I had to change mine in the summer and I just took it to a VW guy. I had the parts so all it cost was the labour. It was the easiest way.

shit. I really don't want to take it in just for changing my spark plugs. It should be a 10 minute job!

Fuckin VW.

BTW. Benzo, to replace my driver's side headlight, I had to take out my battery.

everything is so much more complicated than it needs to be.

fuckin VW.

Some cars that is how you get to it, I have also seen some where you have to take of inner fender.

edit:
That harness will need to be taken off, should pullup off.

Benzo you drive a VW or Audi? I also had to change my driver's side headlight in the summer.

It took us about an hour to do. A job that typically take 5 minutes or so.....yup.

i guess it depends on the model / year of your car.

Mine's a '99 - and yeah i had to remove my battery so it was definately more of a pain than it should have been. However, it was quite easy in the end.

I just did my passenger side a few weeks ago. that one took me 5 minutes.

sheesh. this spark plug thing is causing me some unrest.

I bet the fuckers designed it like that just so people would take it into the dealership.

fancy, just got to a garage who specializes in VW's. Tons cheaper than going to the dealer. Like I said , it only cost me 20 bucks to do it.

you know what? I'd love to find one. I've wanted to find a good VW mechanic for a long time.

Only problem is there are so many around and i just don't know which one to go to. I've been bitten by crooked mechanics in the past, and so far i haven't had a reason to take my car in to any shop.

If you can ask your mechanic if he/she knows any VW garages in toronto / Mississauga it would be appreciated.

glenforest garage (on glenforest, just east of yonge and about 4-5 blocks north of lawrence) is a fantastic and totally honest shop. my family has been taking cars there for 30 years. they do excellent work, and all the time they tell me not to bother having them fix something because it's too expensive. i can't say enough good things about them. i also can't guarantee that they do vw, but they are worth a call.

I just sold my GTI this year and this was one of the factors that weighed into it. I couldn't change a damn thing on my GTI. Even changing a headlight was near impossible...but damn if I don't miss that car.
