Default Vacation Destinies

Hey guys I'm looking to go travel somewhere this summer by myself. I was wondering if you guys had any experience and could help me pick the destination.

Some info:

1. Not looking to go there and get drunk, I don't drink(trying to be in tip top shape). Looking for more of a place to go for sight seeing, shopping, tours and stuff like that.

2. I'm 21(Yes I know I seem more older, experienced and wise )

3. Budget is flexible. Obviously not something that's going to leave me broke, but I think I have saved enough to go somewhere worthwhile.

4. I can only speak English.

5. Only going to somewhere warm. Shouldn't be hard in the summer.

I don't think it's weird to go alone, I don't think my friends would be interested in going and not getting hammered. Plus, I hear it's the best time to travel when you're younger. If you guys could let me know that would be great.

The States included too. I know many people don't want to waste their money and vacation days in North America, but I wouldn't mind as I only know English anyways. Maybe LA, Chicago, or New York or something.

new york is the only spot in the states i would deem worthwhile to travel to if not to the likes of paris, rome, etc. however with NY, while you dont have to get drunk, do go out and enjoy the nightlife. thats half the fun of manhattan. the livelihood of the place.

however I would reccomend to backpack through europe if you haven't been already. if you have, south america. brasil, peru, etc. thats my dream anyways

if you do go to Morocco bring a strainer anytime you order orange juice because there's 20 seeds in each cup

Since you only know english Europe is your best bet. I'm going there this summer.
If you want to go to the U.S. I think NY, Chicago and D.C. are the 3 best cities for visitors. Depends on your interests but if you like museums then D.C. is the place to go.

If you want to do N.A.,for your age and preference I think South Florida will be fun. Miami(South Beach) to Fort Lauderdale and in between and around, should be fun even if traveling alone. Could do shopping at Sawgrass Mills,Dolphin and Aventura Malls,it may not be the best for sightseeing(outside of woman lol) but you'll still enjoy yourself.

What are you interested in? Culture? Art? History? Music? Food?

Most of my trips typically revolve around food. For example, when I go to NYC I don't go for the nightlife but instead go for the culinary experience.

However, when I was in Salzburg last year I made sure I went to the Salzburg festival as they had a few pieces I was very interested in seeing in person.

Any location you go to in the whole world can be awesome if it's what you're interested in seeing/doing.

I did NYC at 21 and just walked around everywhere. It was a bit different in the 80's, but I imagine it would still offer an eyeful around every corner. I lived out of my car parked in Long Island, so if you can afford a nice hotel in Manhattan you would be ahead of the game. There's tons of great art, amazing museums, performances in Central Park, cool restaurants, great neighborhood delis, small and big clubs with live music, small and big theatre, amazing cinemas, and just the constant rush of people. NY has a great way of turning you into a new yorker within a week.

Other than that I can only recommend southeast asia, which takes a fair bit of planning, and might be challenging on your own. Apparently young people can walk from village to village in Japan and stay in people's homes with no problem. And I've known people that have done that sort of thing in Vietnam and Burma. I don't think I could pull that off myself.

a few suggestions...

Galapagos Islands
Jules' Undersea Lodge ( off the coast of Key Largo)
Edinburgh Castle (Scotland)
The Orient Express
Igloo Village (Ittoqqortoormiit Greenland)
Izu Islands (gas mask is mandatory...ya, i'm serious)

i could list dozens more but my point is this...when thinking of vacations, think outside the box
it's ends up being a hell of a lot more fun that way

It's hard to go wrong with Italy or Greece. You can get by only speaking English and only feel a little stupid.

don't think this aplies to you Don, since you seem to want to do go to cittes from what I understand. But imo you can't go wrong with ecoadventure tours, they are definately once in a life time experiences. Safari in africa while living in the bus or tent in the desert and climb to mountain Kilimanjaro, that's the type of vacation I'm saving for!
