Default Top Movies

So Benzo's poll has inspired me in a way. What are some of the top movies of all time? Even stating a top 10. The catch? You must've seen the movies, not just go off of AFI's list.

Right now I'd go with:

1. Schindler's List
2. Vertigo
3. Back to the Future
4. The Matrix
5. The Godfather
6. Playtime
7. The Shining
8. Star Wars -- Episode V
9. Lost Highway
10. All Quiet on the Western Front

Honorable mentions: No Country for Old Men, Fargo, Raging Bull, The Exorcist, Spartacus, When Harry Met Sally, Unforgiven, Citizen Kan, North by Northwest and A Clockwork Orange

Colony you'd put Jedi ahead of the Empire Strikes back? Interesting.

1. Dumb and Dumber - i will never get tired of this movie, no matter how many times TBS plays it. no other movie has provided so many one liners or conversation starters than this flick.
2. Pulp Fiction - English Mothafucka! Do you speak it!?!?!?
3. Training Day - classic, another one i dont get tired of watching
4. First Blood - cant beat the original rambo
5. Sunset Park/He Got Game - tie, only wanted to include one sports movie, but both are great basketball flicks
6. Terminator 2 - just plain awesome
7. Leon: The Professional - i would totally "do" the lead actress in this one
8. There Will Be Blood - great story, great acting, much better than NC4OM, in my opinion
9. The Dark Knight - cant wait for that bad boy on DVD
10. Cable Guy - what can i say, the basketball scene in this one solidified it for me.

looking back at this list.....they may not be the greatest of flicks to some of you movie aficionados, but I like em. plus there isnt a movie on my list that i can be called "gay" for liking. 100% man baby. if i were a chick, i would totally bang me after seeing this list!

i cant really order my picks, great movies are like women, every one of them has something magical and special that you cant rate over the other. So, in no particular order, also i include trilogys as an entire body of work, not as seperate films, sue me :P

Crash- Crazy ensemble cast and storyline that kept me gripped.

Rounders- Im a big Matt Damon and Edward Norton fan, throw in John Malkovich and a game i love to try and play and im hooked

Lord Of The Rings Trilogy- Geek pic, alot of people dont seem to like it, but i did, i loved the books as a kid perhaps that why.

Original Star Wars Trilogy- Best.... Villian.... EVER!!!

Momento- Underrated film that kept me gripped and i needed to watch again to fully comprehend

Gangs Of New York- Daniel Day-Lewis is what every actor should aspire to be.

Blood In, Blood Out- The first "gangsta" movie i ever really watched as a kid, still love it to this day.

Usual Suspects- All time classic plot and great actors to boot.

Resovoir Dogs- I love all Tarentino flicks, but this was the one that got me hooked.

Scarface- Full of so many classic quotes we could fill up a thread just discussing them.

My revolving door top ten... the top 5 have been pretty set for a while, the rest switch on and off.

1. Zoolander
2. All About Eve
3. Moulin Rouge
4. The Princess Bride
5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
6. Rear Window
7. South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut
8. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
9. Psycho
10. Mulholland Drive

close: Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, Blue Velvet, Barton Fink, Halloween, Alien, High Fidelity, City of God, Vertigo, Team America: World Police, Groundhog Day, I'm Not There, The Big Lebowski, Room at the Top, Being John Malkovich, Army of Darkness, Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans

My list is um... all over the place. I realized a while ago that trying rank the definitively "best" movies like AFI does was pretty much useless, it's too hard to define, so my list is formed out of personal connection as much as cinematic expertise. I'm not gonna lie and say Zoolander is the 'best' movie of all time... but it's that movie for me where I've seen it 30 times and know every line, my ultimate comfort movie if you will, so yeah, I put that on top. Same goes for South Park on a slightly lesser level... seen it lots, laugh my ass off every time, you know.

And I thought I've seen all the good movies, I guess I missed a few.

My favorite movie ever is probably The Usual Suspects. Beyond that, the other 9: Fight Club, 25th Hour, American History X, Training Day, The Hurricane, American Beauty, Shawshank Redemption, Leon the Professional was awesome, and City of God.

Usually when I watch movies online I often go back and forward between the movie and the sites I read, but with 25th hour, AMX, American Beauty, Leon, and City of God I didnt turn away for one second. The one I was most surprised with was City of God because I didnt think I could stand watching a movie with subtitles for 2 hrs but I was proven wrong bigtime.

Denzel, Spacey and Norton own.

Norton IS the greatest actor ever!

I swear I love all his movies except for that one I didnt watch...Smootchie something with Robin Williams.

Everything else has been stellar, I swear. American History X, Fight Club, 25th Hour, Rounders. And of course, Primal Fear. Holy shit he was fucking sick in that movie!
