Am i the only one that really hates it?

the media treatment it gets and the little blurbs you see and read in the news are ridiculous.

No, you're not alone to say the least. I really cringe whenever i see these red carpet interviews and the stupid ass questions these stars get asked. The whole thing is ridiculous, it leads the news at night for god sakes. And i hear these from quite a few people, my girlfriend says the same thing every year....."I hate this time of year". lol

Oh, and i hate the name TIFF!

the worst was this one "interview" i saw on CP24. Picture a busy street in yorkville. Some woman is walking briskly towards an SUV surrounded by people.

Reporter: So there's (some actress i have never heard of and don't remember her name)! Look she's leaving this yorkville establishment. Let's ask her some questions!

How do like Toronto!!!?

actress: It's great.

REporter: Have you been to Toronto before!!?

Actress: (gets into SUV and closes door).

Reporter: Well this has been yet another celebrity sighting in yorkville!

end.

The whole thing was so cringe inducing that i felt embarrased just having watched it. Crap like that makes our great city look pathetic.

Couldn't agree more. I saw one reporter trying to get Angelina Jolie's attention, since she's not here to promote anything she wasn't going to talk to media (here with brad pitt). The reporter pointed out she was pregnant and please talk to her, her first question......."What do you love about Toronto?" Angelina nearly rolled her eyes since i assume she gets asked that everytime she's here. She gave the usual, "it's a great city, so multi cultural".

Awful!

that's the thing. The average person watching the footage doesn't take away anything connected to the actual films in any way. All they see are some celebrities being asked mindless questions that mean nothing to anybody or worse yet some idiots on the street being interviewed about which celebrities they saw at starbucks. And we're all stupider from it in the longrun.

On top of that, different brands are throwing parties that have no connection whatsoever to movies or TIFF, and they're calling them "TIFF Events" so people go.

Agreed trane.

Having worked in the Toronto film industry I know how valuable it is to have the worlds eye, and approval of the International film festival in order to keep us on the map. The dollar is important s well but there is way more that goes into the decline and rise of the canadian film making industry.

Adoration of the stars..... well, thats just a societal sickness we have to live with. I don't participate in it, but there are a lot of people that absolutely love it so I can't really steal the jam outta their donut. I will say this, TIFF allowed me to get a pretty fantastic chest to chest groping of Cameron Diaz, and Rachel McAdams' boobs at a premier when I got trapped in a stair well with them.

I didn't mind then.

hahahah

Hahaha, typical dude... your story about that TIFF event changes every year. You got no boobage, buddy! :P

(And since when did you work in the film industry?)

Anyway, a lot of these stars are in Toronto often enough. If I was a big fan of any of them, I'd rather run into them without all this craziness and fanfare so I could actually shake their hand and let them know I like their work. That's the way to do it.

I enjoy it. People like to gawk at celebrities, big whoop. I know it's hard, but don't let it ruin your life. I've been down before - camera in hand - and enjoyed it. I went more to witness the atmosphere, which is crazy but fascinating. I saw Michael Imperioli! Da fuck, T?

I just can't imagine why it'd cause someone so much distress. Hate the time of year! Hate the name! BAH! Look away.

More and more it's getting tied into the Oscars, and that's unfortunate. To me that's entirely separate from the huge amount of goodness to enjoy with the TIFF. I just wish I had the time to do more of it these days.
