Default Teachers' Pension Plan Boosting Stake in MLSE

The Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan announced Thursday it is planning to boost its stake in the parent company of hockey's Toronto's Maple Leafs and basketball's Toronto Raptors to almost two thirds ownership.

The investment wing of the big pension fund said it wants to buy an additional 7.7 per cent stake in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.

If approved by the professional sports leagues involved, the purchase would give the pension fund 66 per cent of the company that also owns the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies, Toronto FC soccer club and the Air Canada Centre.

Financial details were not disclosed. However, the purchase represents the entire remaining stake in MSLE held by CTVglobemedia.
