Ontario sightings of the northern black widow have been confirmed over past decades in London, Grand Bend, along the Bruce Peninsula and on some Georgian Bay islands. And for some reason, Guidotti says, they've been especially common in Barrie.
Man, I hope my wife doesn't hear about this. She won't let the kids out of the house the rest of the summer.

Very funny!

I'll be honest - when I read about it earlier, I was tempted but I figured I'd hear remarks from the peanut gallery. Turns out I didn't have to post anything for that to happen!

i absolutely love spiders. without them we'd be overrun by all sorts of types of insects. for the most part they're elusive and out of sight. my wife is deathly afraid of them though, every time she sees one i've got to get out a plastic container, capture it, and let it outside, which in our hold house, is like, 10 times a week.

My girlfriend hauled me into the bedroom to dispose of the tiniest little spider. She's terrified of them, yet I'm the freak for worrying about swine flu. I flush spiders.

i lived in a basement apartment in vancouver when i was doing my undergrad at ubc. at about 2 am one night i was lying on my side on my futon reading. over the corner of my book i see a fairly large spider come over the edge of the bed from underneath. not huge, but well bigger across than a loonie. i cupped it in a glass and flushed it. no biggie. back to reading, and a few minutes later it happens again. same sized spider, same flush. this time i'm a bit worried, so i flip my mattress over to check out what's going on. without exaggeration, there were 10-12 more big spiders, and at least 40-50 babies. at least. this was cause for a freak out. i got out textboox and squashed the big ones. i had to chase a couple of them around the room to do it. i then put on a glove and went about squishing all of the babies, one by one. it took me over an hour - they were running all over the floor and mattress. when i finally finished killing them and going through all of my sheets just to be sure, i went and threw everything in the laundry, which my landlord didn;t appreciate since it was after 3am by that point. i was like 'you gotta be kidding me. you have a spider infestation in here and you're worried about a bit of noise! how about you come down here and give me a hand...' she didn't. anyways, i get back to my room and i'm about to throw my mattress back down so i can go back to sleep, and i notice a couple of hairly legs sticking out from under the electric baseboard heater. and a couple more, and a couple more... it turns out that there is a full blown spider's nest in the crack between the edge of the carpet and the baseboard, running about 6 feet across. it was unbelieveably gross. i tossed my bed frame out of the way, got a 30 cm ruler from my desk, and went about scraping the spiders from between the carpet/baseboard nest area. another dozen or so big spiders came out, but it didn't seem like there were any youngin's present. squash, squash, squash, all spiders dead. i left my bed the way it was, got dressed, and took a cab to my gf's place where i slept the next 3 days. when i finally came back to the apartment i checked it out and there was no more evidence. my roommate wasn't too pleased that i took 3 days to tell him what happened.

so yeah, i'm not a big fan of spiders either.

Spiders don't bother me.

Like Cling said, they get rid of a lot of bugs.

What I really detest is these:
