Decided to catch up on whats available on smartphone market. My trusted Samsung Wave is still strong, but lacking in some features.

And I fell in love with Galaxy S4 mini. Just the right size and loaded with stuff. I need to have it right now!

So I want to upgrade to the 5S on Friday, have the 4S, little brother needs a phone so was gonna give it to him anyways. Thing is I signed a contract with Bell 3 years ago, it's up April 2014 but my upgrade is in February 2014 for some reason. I called and asked if I could upgrade anyways if I pay for the phone and add 2 years to the contract but the woman said no. I can't buy something I want to buy? That doesn't sound right to me lol, what should I do?

A friend of mine is having the same issue with Rogers. His blackberry is acting up and he wants to upgrade to the GS4. They told him he couldn't upgrade until next march and his 3yr contract is up in April. It appears that since the law changed to two year contracts instead of three they are not allowing early upgrade without large fees. They told him it would cost him 250 $ to terminate the current contract just to be able to sign a new contract for a phone that would then cost 200 $. Well he is not staying with Rogers and he has been a Rogers customer for fifteen years and gives them 350 $/month. He told them they are going to lose 4000 $/yr from him over the price of a 250$ fee. He said he was astounded at their indifference to losing a long time customer that gives them that much dough.

We have a similar problem. Issue here is bell is the same. It's this damn monopoly. It's suffocating

There’s no love lost between Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos and Canada’s big Internet providers: “It’s almost a human rights violation what they’re charging for internet access in Canada,” Sarandos said during the Merrill Lynch Media, Communications & Entertainment conference in Los Angeles Wednesday.

Sarandos was referring to the low broadband caps in place at Canadian ISPs like Bell and Shaw, which force their customers to pay more if they exceed monthly caps that can start at just 15 GB. Netflix has sharply criticized broadband pricing in Canada before, with CEO Reed Hastings calling caps and overage fees like these “grossly overpriced.”

However, Hastings had initially said that he didn’t anticipate the caps to be a problem for Netflix’s business in Canada. The company eventually adjusted its streaming rates in the country, making non-HD streams the default option for Canadian users, and now it looks like it’s acknowledging that the caps are having an impact on subscriber growth.

Asked about it on Thursday, Sarandos had to concede that business in Canada could be better if broadband access came without caps and expensive overage fees. Said Sarandos: “The problem in Canada is… they have almost third-world access to the internet.”
Netflix exec: Canada’s broadband caps “almost a human rights violation” — Tech News and Analysis

A guy I know is from an ex-communist country in Europe. He says the fact that Canada has data caps is laughable

Just wait a month and get the nexus 5. Its probably going to be less than 300 OFF contract.

this douchiness is exactly why i left bell and switched to koodo when my contract was up. i got a galaxy s4 for $150 off the sticker price, but i have no contract and can split any time i want. i have a better plan than bell, and cheaper too, and the customer service is amazing. my s4 screen was broken 6 weeks after i got it due to toddler nonsense. koodo replaced the screen for free, gave me a loaner in the meantime, and had my phone back to me in 5 days. pretty awesome.

fuck bell mobility. i gave them so much money over the years and they were flexible about nothing.

All I can say about these people is that they are about as stupid as they come....Just an FYI. When I got my Iphone 5 (unlocked off contract, although my GF did the same thing with fido and also recieved her phone on lunch day) I was able to very easily place the order an apple.ca the day per-orders started (about 1-2 weeks before the phone went on sale) at 3am. The site worked no problem, my order was placed by 3:05am and then all I had to do was wait......On THE DAY the phone was released to the public....the day all the people in the above videos were lining up, I was at home, in my boxers and at 10:30am The UPS driver pulled up and delivered my phone, on release day. I can prob bet you that I had my Iphone 5 in my hands before some of the people in line had the chance to buy theirs.

Why any of these people line up is beyond me...maybe they all don't have credit cards and need to pay via food stamps....or maybe, just maybe all these tech savvy hipster/asian Apple/iPhone lovers just don't not know to shop online......I laughed at these people for weeks after I saw the vids.....

On another note....the iphone is still, sadly the best phone you can get your hands on today. Android...who i have tried to love, has some of the worst support in terms of updates in the entire industry, and the fact that they are still on 4.X.X is a joke considering in the same amount of time apple has had 3 major updates to their OS (ios 5,6,and now 7). When buying an android device, especially anything other then the NEXUS lines, don't expect speedy patches, updates or new iterations anytime soon. Not to mention the fact that apple supports their devices with new software for at least 3-4 generations/years (iphone 4 still gets new OS updates, although ios7 might cripple the phone speed wise they still make the effort to update it anyways)....Android devices your looking at 1-1.5 years of support if your lucky........
