not really no, it just that it gives you more flexibility with different apps and mods

You Shouldn't fuck it up if you follow instructions properly, but if you won't you could
I bricked my phone while installing ice cream sandwich. Good thing is that I found a way to fix it

Certainly seems to allow you to have more themes and adds to the customization.

I use to root my S1. There is this program called "Odin" which makes rooting your phone very simple.

If you root your phone, your official updating program will see it and not allow further updates. Not an issue if you are using ROMs .

My Xperia Arc is running out of internal memory (only half a GB wtf?), otherwise I would keep it for another year. I'm waiting it out for the Sony i1 (Honami). Really big fan of their camera phones. Based on the leaked details, it should be around 5.3-5.5 inches, 2.3GHz Quadcore, 2GB RAM, 1080p definition. Xenon flash would be the cherry on top.

Yikes!! I fine the Note 2 too big. This is getting out of hand imo. And that phone is far too square for my liking.

The iphone though will start stepping up their game imo. They will start adding more "android type" features. That being said, as someone that wanted an iphone.....now that I have a Galaxy S3 I have to agree with you.
