RF Car thread

Ok, i don't know if this will be very popular but i'm gonna be getting another car later this year and i was thinking about what car i would test out. And then i wondered why there wasn't a car thread here? A thread about cars seems logical here, no?

-So what Car(s) do you own

-What's you dream Car(s)

-What was your first vehicle

-What has been your favourite vehicle

-What Car(s) do you recommend and why?

-Have you ever bought a complete lemon

-Do you regret getting any car in particular

-Automatic or standard?

-If you're too young to drive, when you get your license what will you drive (Parents car maybe?)

And anything else car related you wish to discuss.

I have a 1999 VW Jetta. I just washed it today so it looks nice once again.

It's my favorite car i have owned

My first car was a 1986 VW Jetta. Although it looked cool, the way it would randomly die whenever it rained (including an infamous incident in the middle of a gardiner on-ramp with lots of cars behind me) was not so cool.

My dream car is a vintage Mini. or a vintage bug.

-So what Car(s) do you own
2006 Toyota Matrix

-What's you dream Car(s)
I dunno I stopped dreaming I'll get the car I can afford now. Although for a makeable dream I'd want a LEXUS is350 as my next car.

-What was your first vehicle
1987 Chrysler New Yorker

-What has been your favourite vehicle
1994 Honda Civic SI hatchback. BEST CAR I EVER HAD

-What Car(s) do you recommend and why?
Depends on the cash you have. I'd say Honda's are the best for commuter cars.

-Have you ever bought a complete lemon
Ya a 1987 Crysler New Yorker

-Do you regret getting any car in particular
1987 Crysler New Yorker

-Automatic or standard?
Stick all the way

Your first car is a commuter. don't look for flash look for longevity. Personally I think you should only by a car for style if you can afford two but thats me.

Before I bought my first car I used to share a 1984 Volkswagen Jetta with my brother. Great little car

Windex 01-11-2010 12:45 PM

cars in my family that I remember

BMW 3 series
VW Golf x2
Acura Legend, when it first came out
Subaru station wagon, I think Outback
Mustang
Minivan, Dodge possibly
Mitsubishi SUV
Subaru Legacy
Carolla
Camry

thing about Vw's is they really aren't that great. Japanese are the more logical choices as far as reliability and ease of maintenance goes. Still there's something about VWs that makes me love them.

Oh and standard over automatic everytime. current Jetta is automatic and i really wish it was a stick. I miss changing gears. next time.

Bmats7 01-11-2010 12:46 PM

-So what Car(s) do you own
2005 Honda Civic si (supercharger + cool air intake in the engine)

-What's you dream Car(s)
A porsche. Maybe a 987.

-What was your first vehicle
1994 Mazda MPV

-What Car(s) do you recommend and why?
Japenese cars last and are good on gas (Honda's), also are very cheap to repair/parts.

-Have you ever bought a complete lemon
Ya, but I ate it.

-Automatic or standard?
If you drive pretty far (Hamilton to Mississauga - summer job) then automatic for sure. Standard's are such a b*tch in traffic jams.

I've never owned a vehicle (always leased), but later this year when my lease ends i'm buying for sure. I'm not sure what car i want though, i currently have an 06 Mazda 3 and love it and i've tested the 2010 Mazda 3 an am impressed but i'm gonna be looking at several cars including Mitsubishi Lancer, Honda Accord coupe, Lexus IS??

BTW, Fancy how is the Jetta running? would you recommend it. A friend of mine has one and she loves it, an 03 i believe?

My Dream Car is an Audi R8 or Maserati

I never had problems with a VW
stick gets really annoying in the city where you stop and go every 5-10 seconds
flappy paddle gear box :dancing:

My buddy's dad has an R8. But if anyone is spending THAT much, why not just get a ferrari?

Windex 01-11-2010 12:53 PM

German cars get better gas mileage than Japanese cars, not all, but some do
there are BMW, VW, Benz diesels that get 60 mpg, more than a hybrid

I just prefer the look of the R8. But i get what you mean. A friend of mine just bought a Mercedes and i thought to myself if i had the money to spend on a Mercedes i wouldn't buy a Mercedes, i'd prefer a BMW, Audi, Lexus, Infinity....It's all subjective.

As i said earlier, i love it. It's been a great car for us - we've had it for 3 years now and haven't had any issues with it. At the same time, i've heard a lot of horror stories about VW's and Jetta's in particular once they surpass 100, 000 km. Even though mine is 10 years old, it only has 105,000 km on it now. It still drives pretty well, but i wouldn't be surprised if something started to go wrong.

GrannyFro 01-11-2010 01:00 PM

get a used maserati from the states , they're quite cheap and look amazing

then again, there are jeep's faster then maserati's

you get 530 HP for $140,000
most Ferrari's are over that price

Ferrari F430 for example $200,000 + for 490 HP
0-60 R8:3.7 430: 4.0

Stick shifts are getting harder to find. Now I mean TRUE sticks with gear box and a clutch were YOU control the torque of your car. Nowadays it seems its always on the super moded model or even now some car companies make you pay more for stick than automatic which is rediculous.

Now I'm a stick baby. Every car I had with the exception of my Piece of Shit first was a stick. I love stick and I do drive quite a bit and don't get tired of it.

Things I love about stick

1. Less likely to cause an accident because your always doing something on the road

2. The fact you control the torque of the car you are one with the car.

3. Its fun

Now dont' believe peoiple telling you "you'll save your breaks". Thats a whole lot of BS because for me if I have a choice to gear down to a stop or hit it in neutral I'll choose neutral more often than not to save gas and to save my clutch and gear box.

I dunno I find people that drive stick are really a part of a faternity and I feel more comfortable in Europe where plenty of cars are in stick.f

Oh also did i mention if your conservative with your stick you'll easily save gas.

Yeah, i have 145k on my 06 MAZDA 3 and i haven't had one issue yet. The car runs almost as great as it did when i got it. This is why i think i'll probably stick with them.
