i hated reservoir dogs. senselessly violent and, other than the quality dialogue, poorly written. the story is crappy and loose, and it just doesn't move in an interesting way.

pulp was a great flick, and so were the kill bill movies, but overall i'm not a tarantino fan. his movies are largely pasted together assemblages of other movies and pop culture stuff. he is only original in the way he ties other people's ideas together. some may love that, and he deserves credit for that kind of creativity, but it's definitely not my bag. he writes great casual dialogue, but can't put together any serious dramatic moments that stick with you. he just relies on violence to create action, drama and suspense.

imo..... booooooring.....

i agree, except true romance was the bomb. he didn't direct it, though.

i watched hell boy II last night

6.5/10

not really sure why people get excited over them. i hated the characters.

Barton Fink

The Coens' most meta and introspective, but maybe most interesting, film. Was written when they themselves were in a period of writers block looking to finish a script (Miller's Crossing). By making a character that "doesn't listen" and is too concerned about making an important movie or trying to be better than they are, they're realized what their problem was and describing themselves, thus they can move on. The room of the hotel represents the grim box they are in.

Also pretty brilliant how the first 2/3s are like Barton's rejected script, with not much plotting and Barton just wrestling with himself, then once the girl who knows how write a Hollywood script is revealed, the movie becomes one (typical murder/mystery with satirical fiery climax). This contrast shows their own demention with the Hollywood model and how they dream to write outside of it.

The woman at the end shows the idealized version of Hollywood he has been looking for, thus he assumes she's an actress. But she's not, disproving the myth.

Really great cinematography, atmosphere, acting, sound usage, etc. to cap it all off too.

A masterpiece.

10/10

the big lebowski may just be my favourite film.

I think Tarantino's best piece would be From Dusk Till Dawn, but I think he wrote that so he could finance Pulp Fiction if memory serves me well.

Anyhow, I agree with the Coens. Some find them too pretentious but I don't find that at all. I think they're brilliant film makers and save for The Ladykillers which had its moments, they really haven't done a poor film.

And I agree, the big lebowski is a fantastic film.

They went south for a while with Intolerable Cruelty, Ladykillers, Man Who Wasn't There, but hopefully No Country's awesomeness means they're back for good (Burn After Reading looks great from the trailer too). One of my faves for sure.

Speaking about the Cohen brothers, I just came from the Bruce Springsteen concert and Javier Bardem presented him and the band (funny than in my last Pearl Jam concert he also presented the band), and later after the concert on my way home (they played at Real Madrids Stadium wich is next to my house) I was walking and I stepped into Javier Bardem. That dude is huge!!, Im 6,2 and he was pretty taller than me, and he had a huge body. He was wearing a cap and sweted T-shirt, so he looked like huge athlete.

Oh well, just an interesting anecdote.

Read a while back that the guy who did fight club(cant remember his name) is taking another Chuck Palaniuk Book, this time Choke, and turning it into a movie that should be out this year.

Got lots of love for Palahniuk.

For thos who dont know about Choke its about a guy who pretends to choke in restauraunts so that when people save him they feel obligated for his life and help him monetarily. And the hero of the story, for fun, frequents Sexaholic meetings trying to score with the ladies there.

Should be a brilliant film

I watched Juno, National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and In Her Shoes and I give them all a 10 since they made two 8 hour flight somewhat bearable.

Gone Baby Gone
9/10 pretty entertaining and suspenseful

Ben Afflecks directorial debut.....I think he should stick to directing now...J-Lo ruined his acting career.

his acting career(goodwill and chasing amy) was based on roles that any regular joe could have done. everything else, not a fan of....actually...i was surprised with him being jack ryan.

Well at least he was bearable before he made Gigli, I don't necessarily mean his acting but more his image that J-Lo ruined, putting him on her music videos and being shown around in public as her boy toy every minute of everyday.

They both chose to do the movie. And IMO she was better in that crap movie than he was. He made his choices and he needs to be blamed for his crap career.

So you've seen Gigli?

He's definitely proven that he's fully capable of being a leading man, with such movies as Pearl Harbor, Armageddon, Shakespeare in Love, Bounce, and Forces of Nature.

It's obvious you got something against Affleck, cuz if you call making 10's of millions of dollars and being successful a crappy career then there's something wrong with you.
