Really cute movie. Bit long (but I get bored). And it made me really hungry (big surprise). Good, though.

Hmm.... 7/10?

so i watched "Kes" yesterday.

REally good film. made in 1968 in some small North Enlglish town. It's about a boy with no friends except for the kestrel (falcon) that he adopts and trains. The copy that i rented was real bare bones and pretty low quality audio. this combined with the crazy thick accents that most of the central characters spoke in made it a bit difficult to understand. lol. I would have used a subtitle option had it been available. Anyways, it was interesting seeing this little british mining town upclose and personal. It truly was dreary and drab as hell. Makes me understand why lots of English people emigrated to North America (although i am sure the times had something to do with it as well). Ending was terribly sad. almost makes me wish i never watched it. 9/10

Ken Loach is brilliant. Gotta love his early kitchen sink realism. I would recommend any and all of his films, although they often make you feel like you've been punched in the gut.

I love those kinds of movies. I've never heard of him... I suppose I should check it out?

thanks for the tip. The 'research' i've been doing has suggested that Kes was his best film, but i believe it was also his first. I'm sure that's just some peoples' opinions.

In any case, any other specific titles that you would recomend? (possibly ones that don't rip your heart out)

A recent film of his - The Wind that Shakes the Barley - won a Palme d'Or. It was a great personal look at the inner workings of the IRA in their early years.

Hidden Agenda looks at the IRA as well, but more from the perspective of the Thatcher governments underhanded dealings.

I like the smaller scale subjects the best though. Ladybird Ladybird is centered around a low-income mother that faces her children being taken away from her by government agencies. My Name is Joe is about a guy that lands on the wrong end of loan sharks. Sweet Sixteen is about a kid in a bad situation that deals drugs to try to gain some upward mobiliity.

And Bread and Roses gives another look at a larger subject - illegal immigrants - through very real characters, much of them played by untrained Mexican actors.

It actually wasn't about politics per se, as much as it was about how the cause came between people. The main characters are two brothers that end up taking different positions on whether to accept a peace deal or not. I think this one was a bit longer than most of his stuff.

I got it, but haven't watched it yet. It's the movie Heath Ledger was working on when he died, so they got Johnny Depp and someone else to continue the role.

I haven't heard great reviews.
I watched it.

Not what I expected at all. Pretty entertaining at times. Some great scenes.

7.5/10. I'm bad at rating shit. Maybe it deserves higher. Pretty unique and imaginative.

Ok, I just arrived from NY and the flight was offering "How to train your dragon" so I decided to give it a view... i give it an 8.5/10. Pretty enjoyable...

I just wish that the flight was long enough for me to actually finish the movie! The plane landed and there was still about 15 minutes of the movie left.... damnit!

Pirate Radio.

Pretty darn good movie. Your dead friend SJ already told me the ending, but luckily I forgot. 8/10. I laughed out loud a few times, and I dig the soundtrack. I'll watch it again.

So.... how 'bout it?

44 Inch chest

I thought this was gonna be better. Some ok moments, but it dragged at times, and had a crap ending. So overall, kinda disapointing.

6.5/10

Nope.

I'm really good at tuning people out when I know they're gonna say something I don't want to hear.
