Lucy (We snuck in)

Lucy is a movie of a very cool concept. What if we gained 100% of our brains capacity blah blah blah. So the movie demonstrates what the author thought. AND THATS IT! No story. No real plot. Movie seemed to be adapted from a science paper and nothing much more added. Many Scarlett Bewby shoots however!! Gay buddie wasn't impressed.

was doing a bit of channel surfing yesterday and ran across one of my alltime favourite cult films...

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension

didn't know how to describe this film so i looked at the Rotten Tomatoes reviews to get some ideas...thought this suited it best...

"One of the crappiest films of all time. Yet somehow, inexplicably, it's also one of the coolest films of all time . . . like reading a really bad Japanese comic book on acid "

the movie has a stellar cast but at this point in time they were literally unknowns...
Peter Weller
John Lithgow
Christopher Lloyd
Jeff Goldblum
Robert Ito
Ronald Lacey
Clancy Brown
and this list goes on

an interesting sidenote...a sequel was planned (Buckaroo Banzai vs. the World Crime League") but it was scrapped because the first one bombed at the box office
the script was later adapted into a little film known as John Carpenter's "Big Trouble in Little China"

if you haven't seen it then do yourselves a favour and check it out...i give it a solid 8/10 just for it's sheer wackiness

Beetlejuice

Goofy old movie, it's still pretty silly even though I've seen it numerous times. One thing I noticed is the movie is rated PG, even though they use the F word in it during a scene.

I give this movie a solid B+ rating. There's only a couple quirks in the movie that keeps me from giving it an A. Mostly because my DVD is scratched and it skipped an entire chapter.

What's ultra avx?

Nevermind - googled it - some kind of imax type thing. And it's guardians of the galaxy.

Guardians

saw it in imax 3D, didn't know anything about the characters going in but I liked this movie more than the Avengers for sure. Feels like a kids movie at times but it is a disney movie after all. I can't lie, I just watched Pacific Rim and Godzilla for the first time recently too so I wasn't as impressed with the visuals but it was still great. Seeing Thanos was sick too

8/10

Pacific Rim
7/10

Godzilla
6/10

pretty disappointed with this one tbh, saw it in 3D too and it still sucked

Just got back from seeing it...incredible film...Sue and I seriously considered going back in and watching it again when we got in the car

Everything about this film is first class...cast, action, effects, soundtrack etc etc etc...but for me, the most amazing thing about this film is that Gunn (director) made you really care about these people/creatures

Heartwarming, hilarious and full of action...an incredible easy 9/10
Go and see it...and take your kids...they will love it

We'll be going back to see it again in the theater

took me all the way back to when i saw star wars as a kid. better, though... because the comedy and music were a big bonus.

Honey I shrunk the kids; two thumbs up. I wanted my 5 year old son to watch something from my childhood. It was pure gold. My 5 year old cried when the ant died battling the scorpion, and then absolutely broke down in tears of joy when the parents found the children.

Another thing;

Big Russ Thompson was essentially Jim Carrey, except Honey I shrunk the Kids came before In Living Colour. So I had to look up the actor, Matt Frewer. Google searches further revealed that Carrey also reminds alot of people of Max Headroom, also played by Frewer. Methinks a large part of Carrey's early schtick was taken, intentionally or not, from Frewer (also Canadian).

It's so crazy that you just mentioned Matt Frewer. I watched the first two seasons of Orphan Black recently and there was a character that reminded me so much of Jim Carrey. After reading your post I went to IMDB and sure enough it is Matt Frewer.

I remember Max Headroom very well, but I just didn't make the connection.

You're right though, he and Carrey extremely similar.

Ender's Game.

Really disappointing. I had read the book recently, which was no masterpiece but didn't suck, then decided to check out the movie. What a waste of time. It did suck.

Find your entertainment elsewhere - nothing to see here.

Heh, this was one of my favourite movies as a young kid. I must have watched it and Beethoven 10+ times each.

I'm going to go and watch Guardians of the Galaxy tonight, and can't wait based on the reviews I've read here and everywhere else.

Boondock Saints

Good movie, gets a lil' cheesy at the end, but not a bad flick. I'll give it a B

Noah

In the beggining, thou hast maketh thou self pepperoni pizza. Yet tempted is man for indulgence in greed, and he maketh thou pepperoni pizza with EXTRA CHEESE

That... was a stinkfest, no doubt about it. A high budget failure indeed. F
