Out of that list i'd have to go with Casablanca...but my all time favourite would be Citizen Kane
Metropolis would be a close 2nd

My favorite b+w would have to be fellini's 8 1/2. Night of the Hunter and Eraserhead would be a close second and third. There'd have to be a Bergman in there too. Veronika Voss would be right up there.

Out of that list i'd say psycho.

Edit - forgot about Sunset Boulevard, magnificent Ambersons, touch of Evil, as well as Kane. So many great ones.

Definitely one of my all time favourite black and white films

Here's the opening scene

I love those ed wood movies too. I've seen plan 9 too many times to mention. It's the solarburnite!

I particularly like Glen or Glenda. It's just so weird and dumb with high ideals miserably executed.

Ah - love that one too. Also sellers in kubrick's lolita.

Most of my absolute favorites are black and white.

Out of that list I'd go with Casablanca too. I really like most of those Bogart B&W films: "Key Largo", "The Big Sleep", "The Maltese Falcon", etc...

Some of my most memorable black and white cinematography is in modern films: "Sin City" and "The Man Who Wasn't There". They weren't the greatest movies but the cinematography sure impressed me.

Young Frankenstein.
Clerks.
Does Memento count? I think it was mostly B&W.

Put me down for any of Kurosawa's films over casablanca and hollywood in general.

Actually the last movie i watched was b & w. I watched Love me Tender on the weekend which was Elvis' first movie. It was really good. He was a great actor.

Love this quote from one of the Gozilla trailers:

Daisuke Serizawa: The arrogance of man is thinking nature is in our control... and not the other way around.

Nature is not in control of anything anymore than a clumsy monster is. There are just a bunch of counterbalancing forces, and we fool ourselves into thinking there is a means of controlling them all, but ultimately impinge upon their volatility by creating the need for ever greater counterbalancing.

Yeah - I was going to say my quote isn't too catchy. There was a nice quote in Thin Red Line that captured the same sense really well. Probably something in Tree of Life as well.
