It was ok, predictable, etc.
Didn't have the humour that the first one had I found, still fine overall though.

Thor was fun to watch...but the best part (for me) was the mid-credit scene...CANNOT wait for GOTG

Oh and Sue was drooling thru the whole film

Just got back about an hour ago, what a great movie. I'll give a spoiler free review, not that there is any if you've read it.

-Better than the first one. I'm a big fan of the Fellowship, and was of the Unexpected Journey because of their care free vibes. But this movie topped the first for me.
-More action, the movie begins with them on the run from orcs and that chase basically lasts for 75% of the movie. Does a good job of throwing things from the book in there so it doesn't all seem like one big chase.
-More orcs. As I said, they spend a lot of time on the run from Azog and his cronies. The CGI is noticeable, but you forget about it quickly.
-Legolas!!! Loved him in the LOTR, and even though he wasn't in the book, cool to see him here. He has a bit of a background love triangle going on with an elven girl and Kili. PLus he kicks some orc ass.

Look for the barrel scene. So great.

i'm not a huge fan of the lotr movie franchise, but it is ridiculous to call it crap, let alone awful crap. production values are very high, effects are great, acting is good, story is amazing, direction is appropriately epic, costume design is incredible. they are too long, and perhaps a bit stale now. but to call it awful crap is just silly. especially with absolutely no comments as to what would make it so incredibly bad.

I find it the middle ground between what both you and Jeff say. It's just "Meh". Not a single thing about it is spectacular. Story is far from amazing, it's about as dull and as much of a snoozer as I've ever watched. Some effects are pretty cool though I agree. Also their costumes are nothing special, and wouldn't take anything to design.

It's all a matter of opinion though. I wouldn't stop from watching it, or give them shit for it either :P.

What kind of movies do you guys like? Just curious. Into any Sci-Fi at all? I've got a buddy that is the same way, really dislikes the sci-fi 3 hour movies (LOTR/Star Wars/etc).

I have no specific favorite kind of movie really. If I had to choose then comedys, but thats usually when I'm just sittin back in my house stoned and want to laugh. I watch a lot of everything.

Also for the sake of keeping something in the topic and following it. I watched "The Family" last night. Pure shit. There was 1 maybe 2 points where I thought about laughing.

yeah i hate sci-fi. my favourite genre i guess would be gritty drama and mob movies, but i also like some action and comedy. it's so weird though that in the last year or two i find very few movies all that appealing. used to go to the movies every month. i went to the movies once this year. i love horror movies too but that genre sucks these days for the most part.

Watched 2 movies the other night and they couldn't have been more different (in regards to my feelings towards them).

"Prisoners" - 9/10 flick. One of the best I've seen in a while. Great acting and a compelling story with some good twists. Jackman's performance may earn him an Oscar nod.

"Gravity" - 4/10. I don't know why I keep watching Sandra Bullock movies.... I just can't stand her. All the personality of a wet noodle. I was much more interested in Clooney's character.

Gravity is an absolutely beautiful movie about an amazing woman that can't do shit in a crisis situation without a man to tell her what to do.

I saw the first three LOTR movies with my then GF who use to read all the books every couple of years. She liked the movies and how they stayed true to the books and story line. She is a very intelligent women.

Frankly, I didnt get off on the films, but if a true fan of the material likes it, there must be something there.

To each their own.

Oh. Except comic book films. Everyone has to stop going to those to force Hollywood to start making real films with real writing again.
