That's one of the things I enjoyed most (the old school look) Even the wallpaper in the houses were so 70's for some reason that caught my eye. The fact that it took place in the 70's for some reason it reminded me a little of Amityville Horror. Finally a decent horror movie.

Oblivion

beautiful CGI...too bad the meandering plot couldn't match it...5.5/10

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

director should have just killed all the "Joes" during the first 15 mins and rolled the end credits...would have saved this huge embarrassment...2.5/10

Finally watched The Hobbitt: Unexpected Journey. I'll give it D

Starts out like a musical. I almost checked the disk. Did I just put in Willy Wonka meets LOTR? They went overboard with computer animation. "Oh, you needed to see it in 3D." Kiss my ars, that movie lugged on and on. Then the fricken goblin king, or whatever, had a big ol' ball sack for a chin. It was really annoying. Who writes this crap? It's too violent and scary for little kids, but it has little kid aspects to some of it. Therefore, bad rating from me. I'd watch the entire series of Lord of the Rings 20 times over before watching this movie again.

I went and watched Elysium last night. It was one of the poorer films I've seen in recent memory. Given how good District 9 is, I was expecting a lot more from Blomkamp here. This film is indicative of a wider trend that I've been noticing with big budget films: god-awful weak, overdone plot and story lines alongside excessively done visual effects. Nothing really made any sense, and despite the not-so subtle critique of the 1%, I found myself almost nodding off for much of the film. And, the flashback sequences...At least the popcorn was hot.

agreed. very thin plot. it's almost as if they think all the "super duper" special effects makes up for the lack of an even average plot.

The Wolverine
tbh, i had very little interest in this film but Sue wanted to see it/Jackman so i went along to keep her happy...my daughter in law joined us as well
overall i'd say it was good enough but could have been better
some really good fight scenes, well acted, special effects were well done and it was nice to see a movie go to a location (Japan) and actually stay there
but there was also too much naval gazing for my personal taste (could have cut 15 mins out of the film)...and it had one major flaw...NO BLOOD and GUTS

i mean come on...Jackman spends a lot of time dicing and slicing thru Ninjas with his claws and we don't see any blood ???..fucking ridiculous

i'd give it a 7/10...decent enough film
Sue and Amanda would give it a 10/10...and ya, i had to remind them to wipe the drool off their chins before they left the theater

edit - forgot to add that if you go and see it, make sure you stick around for the mid-credits scene...well worth it if you're an X-Men fan

Watched Olympus Has Fallen last night.

I was suspecting a lot of flag waving (got it!) and a lot of good guys running through streams of bullets (not so much).

Really the film was a pretty good "how to" on how to take over the White House! Just add a cell phone scrambler and you are good to go.

Very much a Die Hard ripoff. But was surprisingly easy to watch. Kids are away so I got to turn it up loud.

Give it a 7-10.

Funny Edit: The IMDB plot pretty much gives up the whole movie!

Kick Ass 2 - 7.5/10

I liked the first one so I enjoyed this one as well. "Kick Ass" and "Hit Girl" were pretty bad ass and the villain was hilarious.

"Mother Russia" scene against the cops was the highlight of the movie for me! Ha!

Welcome to the punch

Somewhat predictable, pretty good cast though. Overall I was expecting better with the SL kind of all over the place. The actor that plays the governor in the Walking dead was in the movie and I've gotta say.......still don't like him. He bothers the fuck out of me.

6.5/10

Elysium

better than I thought it would be, expected it not to be close to as good as District 9 was. The movie looked beautiful during some scenery shots at least, did it's job as a popcorn summer movie considering it's been a really poor summer movie season. The main guy from District 9 was a surprisingly good villain in this movie as well.

7/10

Hollywood/Cinema is pretty much dead.

I don't think it's long before the huge mega stars start doing TV.

I watched a crazy French film called Holy Motors. It was a surreal look at a post-cinema, digital, "reality-based" culture that doesn't seem too far off in the future, and which creates something of a bizarre, collective identity crisis. It was very strange and very fun to watch.

Pitch Trailer for Jurassic World

Quote:
Universal announced last evening that "Jurassic Park 4" is going to be called Jurassic World and hit theaters on June 12, 2015. Now, check out a pitch trailer for the film. Take it for what it is, merely a pitch trailer. Producer Frank Marshall clarified via Twitter that the scene featured is "not part of the movie."

According to the YouTube poster who ran the video: "All I can say is this video was shown as part of Iain McCaig's presentation at the recent Star Wars convention in Germany (he's the fantastic concept artist and designer of Darth Maul). I can only presume it was part of a pitch for reigniting the JP movie franchise, if anyone can confirm please let me know. It was apparently shown to Kathleen Kennedy and Steven Spielberg. Mr McCaig actually said "it certainly got Steven interested in dinosaurs again..." I just think is so cool."

Finally saw Iron Man 3

A little disappointed, I give it a C

The story is fine, but the lack of firepower on the Iron Man suits bugged the crap outta me. It was all punching and kicking and a plasma blast here and there. WHERE'S THE GUNS??
