Snow White & The Huntsman: 7.5/10

Solid movie. Beautiful special effects and a nice twist on the old fairy tale.

Also.... I'm expecting this movie to a be a Titanic-like box office monster when it comes out at Christmas.

Pretty pumped to see it TBH. Seen the musical 4 times and loved it just as much every time.

I'm not an Anne Hathaway fan whatsoever, but I do love Les Mis. Haven't watched the trailer yet, but I hear she does a good job.

i just can't picture Hathaway, Jackman and Crowe carrying a decent tune in this...and from what i heard on that trailer, i'd say Hathaway is totally out of her league here
why oh why does Hollywood do this...go for box office names instead of talent that fits the characters

imho, nothing will ever come close to the broadway production (which i was lucky enough to see twice in Toronto)...first in 89 (?) with Michael Burgess and second with the master himself...Colm Wilkinson (98 ?)

not ashamed to admit that both productions had me almost sobbing in tears...brilliant productions
even to this day, any music from that show makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck...breathtaking stuff

i'll go see this i guess...just to see the cinematography...but i know the voices will be a complete letdown for me

Personally, I think that Hugh Jackman is a great choice.... he's been doing broadway for years from what I hear and looks the part (IMO).

I'd expect him to be pretty good.

Crowe has played in a band as well and I'd expect him to be able to carry a tune.

Hathaway and Siefried? Who knows.... we'll see.

the only voice i would rate as very good is Samantha Barks (Jackman is passable)
pleasant surprise to see that Colm Wilkinson is playing the Bishop of Digne

Prometheus
opening scene of this film is stunning ...my mind is still racing because of it
answers a lot of questions regarding the Alien franchise...creates just as many new ones
Ridley Scott is a visionary...this film is a must see in 3D

highly recommend this film...8.5/10

I watched it. Ill be honest, it didn't blow me away. And I saw a lot of it coming, not as a result of the trailers. I watched it in 2D. i'd give it a 7/10 max.

maybe it's because of the 2d, or the fact that i haven't watched Alien.

you truly missed out if you didn't see this in 3D

admittedly, there were some questionable moments (and dialogue) in the film but there were so many fantastic layers to this story that i didn't mind...this is "high brow" sci-fi at it's best
and i would be remiss if i didn't mention the spellbinding performance by Michael Fassbender...having his smaller storyline (robot/man) set inside the much bigger (man/creator) storyline was fascinating to watch
and WTF did he say to the engineer ???...that question has literally been driving me nuts

Ridley Scott has mentioned that are at least 2 more films in the timeline before it connects to Alien...here's hoping they get made

and as i said before...the opening scene is stunning ...can't get it out of my head

the opening scene was a great scene, yes. I might watch it again, but in 3D. but this time, after I watch Alien.

I went to see Prometheus on Friday. I saw it in 2D. Not sure what I'd rate it. It was somewhat entertaining but I was not super impressed. To be fair, I have not seen either Alien or Aliens, so that might skew my perspective. The people I saw it with also hadn't watched either film. I didn't know it was a prequel until I got to the theatre. A couple of things about the storyline really annoyed me....but it's a spolier so I'll mention it at the very bottom of my post.

I, too, wondered what Fassbender said to the Engineer. Given some of his other antics, which I won't mention, I thought maybe he might have purposely pissed off the Engineer? Then again, Fassbender seemed to have a better relationship with his "father", so maybe he asked a legit question that the father wanted answered. The father said several things he wanted answered by the Engineers.

*********spolier alert******************

To be honest, I had a bit of a hard time getting into the storyline in the beginning because I was so annoyed by the idea of "engineers" visiting ancient civilzations. There is a community of conspiracy theorists who genuinely believe that humans were "engineered" and technologically assisted by lizard people, who later visited the Sumarians. No joke. At first, I thought the movie was just playing off of that conspiracy. Some of the plot did seem to be borrowing from those nutters, especially the part about inter-species-DNA-mixing, which occurs at a couple of points, but at least the engineers weren't lizard people.

No worse/better than Scientology/Xenu
Scientists have also theorized that "life" was carried here by comets crashing to Earth...so who knows

I just thought the concept (opening scene) was visually brilliant and incredibly powerful stuff...it gave me the same feeling as the first time i saw the "bone/space station" scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey

It rocked me in my seat...and for me, that's what good sci-fi should do

Edit...oh btw Bill...do yourself a huge favour and watch both Alien and Aliens...you won't be disappointed
