because the early 90's were the perfect fertile ground for hip hop to mature. and also because listening to tunes like this while high rules.

heard of 'em, but not familiar at all with their stuff. in fact, the only das efx references that come to mind are from tribe:

Quote:
Cmon, you know Im crazy nice (nice, nice)
Brothers cant deal wit this shorty named phife
You must be mad in the head
I bust his ass and leave em bloodclot for dead
Niggaz sound like das efx
If it aint das efx, then they sounding like meth
You might as well do megadeth
Yo, punk mcs better save your freaking breath
Youse a corny muthafuka
You must be high smoking dust wit chris tucker

...and the whole "iggity" phenomenon that chapelle played on...

When I was in elementary school, I remember some of the older kids listening to Das EFX. Mic Checka was a popular song.

Busta Rhymes -Woo Hah
Busta's old shit is great, the coming is one of my favorite albums. These days i wouldn't touch a busta rhymes album, his shit has gotten so bad. I tell ya, these rappers get old and it makes them insecure so they change their style. its pathetic. But old busta, probably his first three albums are original

the roots were by far and away the two best hiphop shows i've ever seen. the live band element is huge for me, but bt is such an incredible rapper as well. the 2nd show was with common, so that was a huge bonus.

the roots played toronto late june for that jazz festival - i planned on going but was disappointed to find out that it was on a tuesday. a couple of my friends have seen them live and can't say enough about them.

have you heard of people under the stairs? musically they're a lot like the roots pre-game theory. i saw them live back in march at the opera house and they absolutely killed it, easily the best live show i've ever been to. the highlight of the show was one of the guys sparking up a joint mid-song.
