What about Big Punisher? Isn't he underrated for a dead rapper?

I'm a big fan of Black Thought and the Roots and Jay-Z especially. And of course I'm a fan of the other dudes you mentioned. Rakim started the wole multi syllable rhyming which BIG L and other mc's emulated. But Common, sorry Don't like him at all.

Yeah he's somehwat forgotten nowadays but not as much as Big L. Big Pun had some mainstream success though so he's much more known than Big L.

I love Big L but by no means is he the GOAT (thats reserved for Rakim). He was clever rapper and his punchlines were legendary, but his lack of range (in things to rap about), his limited discography (mostly due to his early demise), and he his lyrical content was somewhat shallow. Im not dissing Big L (Lifestyle of the Poor and dangerous = my first hip hop album), but I wouldn't even consider him a top ten NY rapper.

Lack of range? Not even. Name 10 NY rappers better then L. Big L was the total package, punchlines, delivery, flow, multi syllable rhyming etc.. A lot of dudes use multi syllable rhymes however a lot of dudes force 'em. Big L's multysyllable rhymes were neevr forced, they always connected. L was one of those dudes that would catch wreck on any track. He was good for a few qutoables in every verse. He had range, the raw shit, the stories (The Heist, Casualties of a dice game) and many of his other tracks had mini stories and such like Clinic. Dude could also spit that real talk (Street struck). Big L would shit on Rakim. If Big L lived longer he would've been able to show more of his whole arsenal. Note that when Big L rapped he chose to rap about that raw shit because at the time hip-hop was spitting some soft shit. He dropped that wreckless, devils son shit tog et some recognition for his abilities. BIG L IS THE GOAT. He would shit on your favourite rapper, your momma, and your baby momma.

Ten NY rappers better than him:

Rakim
Big daddy kane
Kool G rap
Nas
Biggie
Ghostface Killah
Mos def
Talib Kweli
GZA
KRS-One

Possible ones: Jay Z, Prodigy, Big Pun, AZ, Raekwon the chef

To say Rakim is not the GOAT is basically insulting all of Hip Hop (and all the rappers that say he isn't). He revolutionized rapping and he one of the first rappers to use complex rhymes and to empathize flow over just hard hitting rhymes. Rakim is the MJ of Hip Hop. Again Im a huge Big L fan but to say hes the GOAT when hes had a limited discography and raps basically about the same thing. Big L is probably the best Harlem rapper and the best battle rapper, but I would leave the GOAT to rappers with great influence (i.e. Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Nas).

Also if you counter-argue this post please explain how Big L is better than all those rappers.

Its simple Big L would rip all those rappers a new asshole. How is saying BIG L is the GOAT an insult to hip-hop it's my fucking opinion. I already gave credit to Rakim for starting multisyllable rhyming, so read up. Big L could do everything those rappers did, but better. Again when Big l was comin' up dudes were coming on tracks singing and shit so he spit that horrorcore shit on purpose. When he chose to spit about other things (the heist, casualties of a dice game, street struck) he did it very well. It was just his preference to spit raw. You would leave that GOAT for rappers with the most influence, well that's just dandy I don't care. I leave the GOAT for the dude with the most ability.
