that car was not cheap to build, so there's one reason.

it gets about 150 miles to a charge. they had to send it to toronto (for the green living show) on a train because the infrastructure just isn't there for long drives. there's just no way to re-charge along the trans-canada.

like everything else, a prototype is not cheap ....but you start mass producing that kind of system and the cost can only come down

i know i sound like i'm Harping on this topic (no pun intended there)...but the total lack of vision and foresight from any political party in this country is appalling imo
it's obvious to EVERYONE in North America that we MUST move away from our addiction to oil...yet there seems (correct me if i'm wrong) absolutely no political willpower to do so
your Trans-Canada reference is a perfect example
i can honestly say that the 1st party leader to mention (or even hint at) some kind of gradual convergence will get my vote...regardless of party

as a country, it is essential and indeed critical that we do so....STARTING NOW

aren't the greens advocating just that?

i've mentioned this book before, but if you are interested in this stuff there is a wonderful book called 'the geography of nowhere' by james howard kunstler that, in part, looks at our dependence on oil, and how that became completely ensconced as part of our culture through propaganda and the development of urban planning. i highly recommend it.

Quote:
The Geography of Nowhere: The Rise and Decline of America's Man-Made Landscape is a book written in 1993 by James Howard Kunstler exploring the effects of urban sprawl, civil planning and the automobile on American society. The book is an attempt to discover how and why suburbia has ceased to be a credible human habitat, and what society might do about it. Kunstler proposes that by reviving civic art and civic life, we will rediscover public virtue and a new vision of the common good. 'The future will require us to build better places,' Kunstler says, 'or the future will belong to other people in other societies.'

i guess i should clarify that the power (to change) is where the money is...that being either "Blue" or "Red"
i like the NDP and Green parties but feel they are irrelevant when it comes to dictating philosophies for this country...i (and this is obviously just my opinion) tend to classify them both as our country's "conscience" moving forward (an important role nonetheless)
imo real change must come from either the "Blue" or "Red"

never heard of the book but it looks very interesting...i will try to pick it up

thanks for the suggestion

i thought you said 'regardless of party'?

maybe the greens and ndp don't have a voice because people are all doing what you are doing - disregarding them. if they are the only ones advocating that change, and we don't vote for them, aren't we just supporting the status quo? why would blue or red change if they are getting the votes anyways? a surge in popularity of the greens or ndp would send a pretty strong message, no?

i voted NDP for years and years...nothing changed ...haven't voted for a long time now because of it
yes i said "regardless", so maybe it's time i took a closer look at the Green Party and it's platform

This sort of change is happening at the municiple and provincial or state level by and large. I point to the decentralized federal government that has become largely irrelevant here sadly. Though I think this is exactly where the feds could acquire a legitimate agenda once again. It would mark a huge change though, and the little tease we got from the Libs last time around proved fatal. If not done right it can be a killer politically. In the states there is just too much money wrapped up in the political process. Those dudes are owned, and the legislation ends up being written by lobbyists themselves. I think there has been some good movement through all levels of govt in Australia, although I could be totally wrong on that.

Watched this show religiously every Sat morning...or whenever it played.

When we got our first colour TV, we watched Wrestling first and then this show.

Yeah. I old.
