Quote:
In capitalism there is the "dictatorship of the bourgeoisie" (political power is in the hands of the capitalists) and, despite the fašade of popular rule, the mass of the workers have no real change to participate in and affect government. In the dictatorship of the proletariat, on the other hand, political power is held by the great majority, and once the former capitalists and landlords get production jobs they become workers and take part in the political process with the rest of the population. The dictatorship of the proletariat, therefore, is actually more democratic than democratic governments in capitalist societies, even by the latter's own definition of "democracy."
Quote:
The citizens of the proletarian state, Marx believes, will be able to choose their leaders wisely, but what of the leaders chosen? In marginal notes he wrote into his copy of Bakunin's State and Anarchism, Marx gives us his answer to the kind of criticism of Marxism and Russian communism now associated with Milovan Djilas' New Class. Far ahead of his time, Bakunin warns that workers, "once they become rulers or representatives of the people, cease to be workers." Next to this comment, Marx writes, "No more than a manufacturer today ceases to be a capitalist when he becomes a member of the municipal council." Bakunin continues "And from the heights of the State they being to look down upon the toiling people. From that time on they represent not the people but themselves and their own claims to govern the people. Those who doubt this know precious little about human nature." Beside this, Marx writes, "If Mr. Bakunin were au courant, be it only with the position of a manger in a worker's cooperative, he would send all his nightmares about authority to the devil."34

Two significant conclusions emerge from this exchange: first, Marx believed people in the government do not have important interests which conflict wit those of the class from which they come. Consequently, the elected leaders of the proletarian dictatorship will want to represent the workers correctly. Should the electors make a "mistake," which in this context would only refer to the faulty character of an individual office holder, it will be quickly rectified through the instrument of the recall. Second, to believe that workers elected to government will use their authority to advance personal ends is to have a "nightmare," which I understand in this context as a foolish and impossible dream. Marx is asserting, in effect, "The workers are not like that," or, to be more precise, "will not be like that when they come to power." Evidence that this is what has happened in present day communist countries cannot really be used to settle this dispute since the social, economic and political pre-conditions which Marx thought necessary have never existed in these countries.

It's true I played some ball few days ago after a veryyyy long time. I was disgusted with my game, couldn't believe how bad i was, my shots were bricks and I wasn't confident with my handles and a step slow all the time.

I still don't know where people find basketball leagues in the city of Toronto.

I'm considering joining my brother's soccer team again but I feel so alienated on that team. Besides me, my brother, 2 of my brothers' friends and a maybe a few others on that team, they all try to go all Ronaldinho doing moves instead of playing simple and smart. Very frustrating. AND so many of them never show up. So many games last year we played full games with say 8-11 men against teams with many subs. Just very frustrating. Also I feel like how Pique or Busquets must feel playing for Barca - everyone's short.

+ I think I have permanent back problems from my backpack.

What a depressing job search.

I got a promising interview, felt I liked the company and it promised great learning & salary. I just found out through a casual employee review that the place works you on 10 hours per day on 6 days a week. It also pays commission rather than base pay. Worst part? It's a door-to-door job, and it seems like the product and selling technique is very sketchy.

I feel like a dumbass for only checking out their official site when preparing for this interview.

Got to say that sounds a lot like Vector when me and others said NO! the other day on here.

I've been on interviews like that before. I'm going to go through that for most of May once again :/

I know man. It reminded me immediately of Vector.

At the very least, Vector had a legit product and sales technique and flexible hours. The way the employer lied on the job posting was straight up unacceptable.

They claimed to sell "green" products, gave job description of "selling inbound/outbound, telemarketing" and listed compensation as $16.25-$19/hr.

I did an extensive Google search tonight. A lot of former employees said that the second "interview" which I surely will get invited to next week is not an interview. They do not warn you, but they get yourself and other candidates to go in a van. Then they drive you to some remote place in the city, where you watch the sales leader go door-to-door to sell the products. (this is when you first discover it's door-to-door, no prior indication has been given to me)

They work on the premise of going into people's homes in order to inspect equipment. Then they try to make a sale based on saved costs. I Googled it further, and a lot of clients complained that they were mislead to believing the company represented to government.

On the employee side, they promise flexible hours. Well, apparently you are expected to work 10 hours a day. They drive you to a random area, you make your sales. Then they pick you up at the end of the day (often late). Oh yeah, did I mention this is all commission-based?

Yeah, at this point I couldn't find any accounting related jobs so I was looking for something customer service based.

I ended taking a labour job. I am still looking for something more related to my background in the meantime though.

I am mad nervous though because I'm not a big hands-on type of guy. Any tips?
