I have and always have had a huge problem when people say that marijuana is harmless. It isn't for some and can be for others, just like you said. There's also a lot of "Well, alcohol's worse!" coming from that camp, which is a ridiculous comparison. They're completely different things and it's the unpredictability of pot that can cause trouble for some.
Indeed. People need to realize that one size does not fit all. One guy can smoke weed all time, and another guy who smokes the same stuff can end up in the hospital. One guy can handle drinking alcohol on the weekends as a life style, while his friend develops into a hard-core alcoholic. Drugs are going to impact people in different ways, what's safe for one person is not safe for another.

And finally, it's not all good. There are a lot of inferior choices and ideas in this world, and part of being a grown adult is identifying such. You must judge, despite the fact that you will be wrong often, and thus have to continually revise, edit and even overhaul your philosophy.

Sometimes, when talking to certain friends, or when reflecting on how I thought when I was younger, I realize that there is such a thing as an idea that is so vague, so incoherent, so inconsistent and elusive in identity, that it's not even right to say that the idea is wrong. It's not even wrong. For an idea to be wrong, it first has to actually exist as some distinct identifiable concept, otherwise, what is it you're saying is wrong? There was nothing really there to begin with. Sometimes I fear that people themselves aren't even wrong. Their consciousness is so vague, so inconsistent, so incoherent, their ideas so borrowed from others......I sometimes wonder if they even truly exist.

**

Why was I so hard on him for advocating such an unscientific and unsupported idea? I guess I'm a bit like the guy who calls the phone company to argue a reoccurring charge of 25cents that shouldn't be there. It's only 25cents, right? Petty to argue over one small charge? No, it's not only just that, it's the violation of a principle and what it potentially means. If you let this one unwarranted charge slide, what about the ones to follow? It's not just the one event, it's the conditions that allow this event to reoccur over and over. It's the same with humanity and it's ideas. A person has to earn his knowledge, and he can't just steal it without working for it. Knowledge shouldn't come easy, it's not something just handed to you. Make sure it's right. Don't just believe whatever comes it's way because it's easy. That's criminal.

Any of you guys remember Dakota Fanning? You know, the little girl who starred in a few movies?

Anyone know what she looks like now?

Are you kidding me? Wasn't she like 8 a few years ago? Holy fuck, she grew up fast.

(FYI: I noticed how old she was from a commercial for her new movie "Runaways" coming out. She hasn't done a movie in forever!

based on the fact that weed literally has a toxicity level of zero, i'll never buy into any of these speculative, negative long term effects.

if anything, the carbon dioxide in the smoke would take a much, much larger toll than anything else from the combustion of marijuana.

And I love DK lamenting the fact that she's grown up so quickly when she's actually older than him.

Anyone watching "The Pacific"?

I thought it was just another war epic and pure "USA USA" pride sorta thing but it's more than that, plus the action scenes rivals those of movies

Is it any good? My husband watched the first episode and said that he didn't care for it too much ... [note: he (and me too) is a big "Band of Brothers" fan so he may have been comparing the two series in his head]. Should I tell him to give it a second chance?

Second episode was out last night and I think you guys should give it another chance, the characters may have felt one dimensional and cocky in the beginning but I heard that the series gets alot more deeper and darker as the pacific theatre goes on.

I just saw what Porl Thompson (old guitarist for the cure) looks like now. A bit of a scary fucker if you ask me, but it kinda works for him IMO.

I pvr'ed the second episode... cant wait.
i actually liked the first episode.... didnt fool around, went straight into the action, unlike band of brothers. sure that may kill the character development, but it makes for some good excitement!
