It's tons of fun. I've done it a few times.
As long as you're a decent swimmer, you'll be fine. Also - listen to every option that your river guide gives you. If you end up in calm water, and he says you can hop out and swim beside the raft... do it! If he says that there's a spot where you can get out and cliff jump...do it! Just take advantage of all that the trip has to offer. Most of the river guides are good people. and will be able to answer any questions that you have. |

I've been rafting a number of times. Absolute blast. DWSC said it best, listen to your guide.
If it's rained a lot on the river or near it in the past few months the rapids are even better. You'll get like spring like rapids which are faster and more choppy. Usually in August the rapids are pretty tame. But no matter what just enjoy yourself. |

Money well spent. We got some big waves and rapids that got the raft way up in the air. What I didn't know that there was a 15 minute hike to a waterfall which had a 20-25 foot cliff beside it which I a few of us jumped off.
Also, like Fancy said we got a chance to jump in the river. Funny thing was that even though the current looked calm it was pushing us forward to the point were we barely even made it back to the boat because we almost gassed and ran out of energy. |

nice one nites.
I bet the rafting is pretty awesome in BC compared to that in Ontario (although what do i know). This makes me want to do the experience again. When i did i was a kid (12 or something) on the madawaska river by good old Barry's Bay Ontario. |

![]() The scene you see in the picture is exactly the same thing we went through. It was a 4 hour ride in the river with breaks in between to stop and look at scenery. Last edited by Nites; 08-22-2012 at 04:23 PM. |

I've been rafting on the Ottawa River three times, twice this summer and once last summer. The water level was low this year and high last year so even though the rapids we hit were the same, the experience was completely different. I was never thrown off - the first time I was pretty scared but this year I was basically looking to get thrown off and it never happened. I had a blast, it's generally a great day for both the thrill and just being in the middle of nature.
The water in the Ottawa River is balmy in a lot of places, but the rapids aren't as good as they are out West. I hear the water is cold as fuck in BC but the rapids are more intense. Last edited by thought; 08-22-2012 at 11:53 PM. |

Our guide was trying to get through most of the river before the sun hid behind the mountains. |
