he hasn't really moved much since the last time i brought him up.

i'm starting to wonder if he gets into my stash and smokes up while i'm at work, the little guy's got mad couch-lock all the time.

I'm picking up a german shepherd in 10 days. She's already 6 years old but all dogs need a good home right? She's a really smart and obedient dog, can run as far as 22km and attacks on command

When I pick her up I think I'll put down a reservation for a German Shepherd pup too.

i love german shepherds, but what breeders are doing to their back ends is just awful. she looks and sounds like a good dog. i hope she has lots of good running years left.

I love them as well, it's the first breed I've had as a child so they're quite special to me. Very smart, and loyal.

I was worried about her slant on the back end too. I checked on her before making the purchase and the hind legs appear to be fine, her posture is only like that when you force her into it by pushing on her rear end.

yeah. they're selectively breeding them like that for cosmetic reasons, just like bulldogs and pugs with squishy faces that are not biologically stable. it's sad, really, that humans will do that purely for aesthetics. the shepherds are having major arthritis problems later in life, but hell, they can win dog shows when they are 2! yay!

Great thread. I thought I'd join in and tell you guys about Tobi, I got him as a gift for my woman, but it turns out that I fell in love with this little guy within seconds and he slowly became mine... He's the best dog in the world. It's funny how dogs know when you're having a bad day and come to comfort you. They are so smart.

Yeah, she used to be a show dog which is the reason why they trained her to pose like that. I don't plan on making her pose like that anymore, there's no point. I'm going to have to do a little more research and see what I can do to eliminate any chances of arthritis.

A Yorkie right? I've owned one as well but he wasn't too playful (his previous owners were a tad abusive). I got him when he was about 5 years old, lived up to about 18 or 19 years old....

You'll have that dog for a long long time.

Yup, tob's is a yorkie...
I really hope he lives as long as that... If I have one complaint it's that he is sooo dependent. He will cry if you don't let him sit on your lap... He needs to touch me at all times or will get sad... It's actually quite funny. He is just so touchy-feely, I think my woman babied him too much when he was a pup...
I love that little guy.

I don't. She wakes up when I wake up.

Well, she wakes up at 5am first so she can crawl into bed with me. But she doesn't actually get up til I do.

one time thing, not as extreme as jeffb depicts, no changes to his behaviours from the past 2 years. If he was exposed in an enviroment like that on a consistant basis, once every 6 months even, then i should be going to jail

I just picked up a 7 week old German Shepherd pup yesterday! The little guy is a handful. Needs constant monitoring cuz he pretty much takes a piss every 30 minutes, lol.

Been playing a lot of tug with him to increase his prey drive, I plan on registering in a Schutzhund club once he's at least 1 year old. But for now I'll be doing obedience classes once he's around 3.5 months old. Pretty smart pup so far, already learned how to sit, come, and shake paw in the first day!

I named him Niko (got the name from Nikola Tesla). Here's a pic of him chilling by his bed.
