Default PDF viewer?

Hi all I am in my first year in uni and right now my subjects require me to print about 100 pages per week as lecture notes that I have to bring every day plus buy some extra books.

I have found out that these notes are available in the uni's website in PDF format to download however I have no idea what device to get if I were to switch to PDFs instead of printing. Also do these pdf viewing devices allow you to right little notes? Don't want to buy tablet PC as it is expensive for me

Final question is I heard that with an e-reader it is difficult to view PDFs. What's the difference between an eBook and a normal PDF that you view on the computer?

You can view it with a program called Adobe Reader. If you have a laptop or something then you'll be fine and will save big. You can't write notes unless the author has allowed it. e-Reader? Not sure what that is...but PDFs are fine to view in my experience

You cam view a pdf file on a smart phone... even PowerPoint
no need for an iPad.

about smartphone, it is small and lags when you load a 1000page pdf

i downloaded pirated versions of 3 of my books and no longer interested in buying hard copy...all 3 cost a combined ~$320 brand new and cbf finding second hand. also these books look like they won't fit my bag at all and 2 days per week I have 3 different lectures consecutively so have to bring them all at once. also i am short and have small hands and never been to the gym before so my arms will probably break if i had to hold and carry them around the campus.

had a change of heart - interested in tablet now. currently I am looking at Acer Iconia 10.1" - how does it do for PDF (especially with many pages)? also can you do basic stuff like typing documents, etc (MS office).
