Default Passports at the border?

Hey guys,

Just wondering, when does the whole 'you can only use your passport as visual ID' go into affect at the borders? I know since forever you could use other pieces of ID but my dad said thats stopping either in DEC or new years. Any idea what date it is? Thanks for any info.

It is pretty much in place that rule. I had my trip delayed two days when I came back from Europe two years ago because I didn't had the Canadian passport with me. The trick is, even if the Canadian authorities doesn't enforce 100% this requirement, the f*cking airline was overbooked and kicked me out of checking point and I had to go to Canadian Embassy to get an emergency passport! So, I strongly recommend you to get the passport if you want to travel!

Thriller, is becomes effective Jan. 31st, 2008 so if driving across the border before then you can still use a couple pieces of ID.
