NBA 2K12

Players now apparently will be able to jump over the scorers table, stand on the table and interact with the first two rows of the crowd.

When playing the Legends you can play in black and white with no 3pt line.

Did @2KSports fans know players can jump up on the scorer's table in NBA 2K12 to save the ball? Pretty sick: http://tinyurl.com/3ly9zpm

I think they'd be releasing a patch or update as soon as the lockout ends though with each rookie on his new team.

They cant have rookies before they relieve the lockout, that was obvious. They said that they have the rookies made and the update will be seemless once the lockout is over. Not a big deal. Whoever made that video is a moron.

2K Sports today unveiled a new mode for NBA 2K12 referred to as ‘Training Camp’. The mode acts as a series of tutorials rather than being similar to the ‘NBA Academy’ introduced in the NBA Live series which was more intended as a multi-faceted practice and learning environment. In total there are nine camp “lessons” in 2K12 that include running through different shots, moves, passing execution, and defense.

This will be a welcome addition to the series which has taken some flak for its complicated control scheme and lack of accessibility even as its popularity soared. ‘Training Camp’ includes just the basics though and while completing moves in sterile situations can help build a level of comfort and confidence that may ultimately be too limited. For many jumping into the five-on-five environment, and having to control the entire team, is when things really can become intimidating and the current practice mode doesn’t do enough in its current state.

Thumbs up The Official RF NBA 2K12/NBA Elite 12 Thread

My rookie certainly stands out on the court, and it's not just for his 7'2", 250-pound frame and giant mohawk.

After scoring 12 points in a rookie showcase, this center from Northwestern is attracting the attention of the Knicks, 76ers and Wizards.

Then my demo turns into the sports equivalent of Mass Effect.

The pro basketball simulation NBA 2K12 is introducing some interesting changes to its My Player mode, based on some recent hands-on time.

For those new to NBA 2K, My Player allows you to create a rookie player from scratch, right down to the tattoos on his arms and the kicks on his feet.

So, what does a NBA sim have to do with an intergalactic action RPG? Once players create an athlete and run them through a Rookie Showcase, they perform a series of pre-draft interviews.

During each interview, the team representative asks a series of questions. Players choose between one of four responses, each of which directly impacts your draft status.

Having expressed my disinterest in playing for the 76ers, my rookie center was flagged for "character issues," which likely resulted in my predicted outcome as the 17th pick for the New York Knicks.

However, player drafts don't always go by the book. As I watch the NBA Draft unfold, complete with commissioner David Stern detailing each pick, my player gets passed over by the Knicks and instead goes 18th to the Wizards.

After signing my new contract, I check out some of the other interesting components to My Player. Each created player gets a "paycheck" every two weeks, and that money goes toward improving skills, developing chemistry with teammates and more. For example, I could choose to attend a Youth Camp with a NBA Legend, or join the rest of my teammates for a bowling night.

During the season, players can compete in an extensive series of drills to bolster their abilities and fast track them to star status. This same structure applies to Creating a Legend mode, which is the same as My Player, only you can control any current NBA player. So, if you're a Blake Griffin fan, you can help guide him toward a Hall of Fame future.

Of course, the other big draw is NBA's Greatest, where players can revisit the highlights from 15 of the league's legends.

The first highlighted during the demo was Bill Russell and his '64-'65 Celtics against the Lakers. To reflect the time period, the game features grainy, black-and-white visuals and simple graphics for scores. Players might even notice the wooden, folding scoring tables and the lack of a 3-point line.

I also checked out Michael Jordan and his '92-'93 Bulls taking on the Charlotte Hornets, then led by young stars Alonzo Mourning and Larry Johnson. Again, the graphics and other visuals carry a '90s feel.

Instead of last year's Jordan Challenge, where players had to achieve specific goals within a game, players must simply win the game in NBA's Greatest to unlock each set of classic teams.

As for the on-the-court action, it still feels as enjoyable as any other version of the series. The game will receive some tweaks to player physics and momentum to accurately portray a player's size and quickness. I got a brief glimpse of this after watching Wizards point guard John Wall knife through a group of Mavericks defenders en route to the hoop for a quick lay-up. However, it was hard to tell just how significant those changes were without more playing time. Character models seem to carry a bit more detail as well.

Once again, the NBA franchise from 2K Sports appears to be in solid shape, judging from this demo for Xbox 360. I'm very curious to see how far developers take the changes in physics and momentum on court.

The game launches on Oct. 4 for PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2 and PSP.
Preview: Hands-on with 'NBA 2K12'

Player Abilities

With 2K12, the 2K Sports team is giving us a whole new way to upgrade our My Player. Your player now has a number of skill ‘Abilities’, in addition to his existing attributes, that you will be able to upgrade throughout his career. These Abilities are broken down into the following categories: Shooting, Layups/Dunks, Dribbling, and Post Moves. Within each category is a set of specific skills/moves. For example, in the Dribbling section you will find Sizeup, Hesitation, Crossover, In and Out, Spin, Behind Back, and Stepback. Each skill is rated on four skill levels: Poor, Average, Good, and Great. Continuing with the dribbling example above, in previous years, your player did not have a proficiency level with each individual skill. As he crossed certain rating thresholds, he would simply gain access to new animations and ultimately, his success rates for the moves would increase as well. With 2K12, you will need to upgrade the skills individually for your player. It’s entirely possible for your player to have an incredible Crossover skill only to have a poor Spin move or Stepback. To play the way you want, you are going to need to upgrade specific skills and develop go-to moves. No longer will you be able to be a master of every move unless you invest the skill points required to develop these and apparently that won’t be easy or cheap. Upgrades cost a LOT of skill points.
