To be honest, I haven't been into a lot of this year's music. Dig Out Your Soul was solid, but nothing else comes to mind.

May have to check out Third, though. I used to love Portishead

I'd like to smack Dallas Green upside the noggin.

Why? Do you have a beef or is that just your standard greeting? "Hey, what's up Dallas?" SMACK.

Yeah, similar, but I find halfway through either of M.I.A.'s CDs, I get tired.

Maybe it's a local rivalry. Turf wars in St. Kitts.

It's a little bit of that, but if he didn't irritate me so much, I wouldn't care. I don't want it to seem like I'm up on some high horse, but I can see through his songs. They're wafer thin and involve some pretty bad high school poetry. He takes the easy route with his fluffy chords and echo-y vocals. He claims some deep admiration of Ron Sexsmith, but records covers of Ron's songs which are so awful and way off the mark and demonstrate that his abilities end with his silly songs. As a huge Sexsmith fan, this is difficult to handle. He plays venues like Lee's Palace, which is a bar, and has the audacity to tell people who are hanging out at the bar and not there to see him, to be quiet so all the 12 year old girls can listen and watch without interruption. They ignore his requests and he gets pissy. He demanded that everyone attending his gig at Massey Hall remain seated. He claims he doesn't want to have anything to do with fame or the spotlight, yet there he is, with his airhead girlfriend, Leah Miller, at various red carpet premieres. At the Raptors game I attended a couple weeks ago, he was courtside and they flashed his dumb mug on the big screen. Way to keep a low profile. Fortunately, no one there knew who he was but me and my girlfriend, who likes to grind my gears. She's an aquaintance of his and likes some of his songs and enjoys torturing me in the car with Save Your Scissors. Biatch.

"Teehee, why do you hate him so much?!" she asks

"Pull over and get out and I'll tell you."

Wow...that's a lot of hate, my friend! I think the whole thing would be smoothed over if you just slept with Leah Miller. Work that out with your girl and everything will be cool.

I get what you're saying, but with limited exposure to Sexsmith (I have a couple of his CDs), I can't really provide much insight regarding your comments. My wife and I like Bring Me Your Love, we don't really know anything about Dallas or his so-called influences...

Yeah, he's still making music and he's making GREAT music. I missed him in the summer when he played RTH, I was tied up with something else. Anyway, this release and his last one are both solid.

Seriously though, that Colour and City song where the chorus is "I'm going home" in which he repeats it about 20 times in a row is quite possibly the most unimaginative songwriting I've ever heard. I have more creative sounding farts.

Off of the top of my head I think I've only listened to two new CD's this year, so they are my favourite.

Earth to the Dandy Warhols - The Dandy Warhols
Only by the Night - Kings of Leon

You should record a bunch of your farts, set them at different speeds and then throw some chords down with it. Back in the day, Lang and I used to record belches and farts on a friend's reel to reel machine at lunch and then play them back in slo-mo...it's brilliant stuff.

Funny, I found the latest Kings of Leon to be their weakest CD yet. Sounded like they wrote it to perform in arenas. Still decent, but I don't think it had the same edge as their previous stuff.

My friends and I used to record our farts on a ghetto blaster in 1985. We'd record them over songs we'd recorded off the radio, so you'd hear, say, Tears for Fears, then some enormous ass flapper followed by fits of prepubescent laughter, then right back into the song. Those really were the days.

But of course, before the actual fart and subsequent laughter, there would be the "crackle, shifting and clicking" sounds of 1985 ghetto blaster recording.

Yes!
You had to press record and play. Hard to do when you're hopped up on Jolt cola and the novelty of being up at 2 am.

Yup, it was a time of technical wizardry. Not to be outdone, the Commodore 64 geniuses were going from "Press Play on Tape" to ",8".

I have been recording my farts since I was 8 years old and will continue to do so until the day I die.

My band has an unreleased song called "Farts On Mars". Look for it when our boxset comes out.
