Default Laptop freezing

Our laptop at home is about 6 years old. It's starting to freeze now. more and more often. After about 2 hours of being on it will freeze.

Is this the end?

is there something i can do to fix it or do i need a new laptop.?

I'm assuming you've done the usual virus checks fancy?

it might be the end, my first pc did that but it would freeze in about 5 mins. Turned out my motherboard was done for. Some other problems would be the bios changed, but i doubt that. Have you tried scanning for adware, spyware, viruses?

i had the same thing a long time ago and it wasd entirley a motherboard issue. i replaced it and all was fine.

did you install any new software recently? a driver conflict could possibly create this situation.

No new software installed. I assumed it was an age thing

Is it easy to replace the motherboard on a laptop? I've never taken one apart.

i had a buddy do it. i'm not gifted that way... that's why i switched to mac. pc's can be a lot better and more powerful, but macs are so easy for those that would rather spend their time doing anything besides working on their computers...

is it even worth it to replace the mother board?
mother board's are costly, and its probably just smarter to buy a brand new laptop if the mother board is fried.
i'd look into checking for a virus first, then look into RAM or memory.

1.) De fragment it (found in system tools)
2.) Download Spybot, update it and run it. Its free and will detect and rid you of spyware.
3.) Buy an anti-virus program such as Norton or download AVG, which is free. Update it and then run it.
4.) Download Windows updates
5.) Go into your web browser, clear your temporary internet files and reduce the storage size to 20MB
6.) Delete any programs or files they you don't need/use
7.) Add RAM
8.) If all the does not work then consider formatting and starting fresh. Its not as daunting a task as it may sound.
9.) If the above doesn't work then you should consider getting a new PC or a used one. Seriously, you could get a brand new cheap PC at Wal-Mart that would be better than a 6 year old PC.

My laptop is only two years old and I'm in the planning stages of picking out parts to build a new one(tower).

Check the fan at the back and inside to see if it's clogged with dust. It might be overheating and shutting itself down.

Good one. I once had to deal with that about 15 or so years ago on an IBM 386.

yup, my desktop had that prob 10 years ago... it ended up getting so hot and the power supply would just burn out after 5 minutes causing the PC to crash.
