I'm thinking of buying an XBOX

'sup guys.

i'm thinking of buying an XBOX 360 and i wonder if you can help me out with some questions.

I've got my eye on the "arcade" package which costs $279. Now i know it doesn't have a harddrive, but it comes with a 256 mb memory stick. I need to know, is that memory stick big enough to store my basic game save data for say, 10 games or so?

I'm not a harcore gamer by any means, so i don't care to download demos, play online, import my mp3's yada yada. And i can always upgrade later if i need to anyways.

At the same time if 256 mb gets filled up really quickly with game saves, then i would probably get the one with the hard drive. maybe one of you knows.

advise!

Specifics, I'm not the best person to ask fancy. I'm sure Insider, Rasam or Benzo could be more specific with you though. Benzo will just tell you to buy a PS3 instead, so be forewarned. ;)

BTW, if you do get a XBOX would you like to be lead guitarist in my "Rockband" "One in the Stink, Two in the Pink"? ;)

Benzo 05-20-2008 04:37 PM

Buy a PS3 don't waste your money.

INSIDER 05-20-2008 04:37 PM

well the good thing about the memory stick Fancy is thatyou can delete old stuff off of it... so when you're done with a game or dont need the saves anymore, you just delete em.

Thug 05-20-2008 04:39 PM

Buy a PS3 instead, trust me I worked at a game store and have had both systems at my house at the same time..360 was a lot better at one time but PS3 has made a huge comeback and has the much brighter future. If you have any questions don't hesitate asking.

INSIDER 05-20-2008 04:50 PM

i have both a PS3 and xbox360 currently.
as a hardcore gamer, i will tell you that the PS3 is fuckin awesome and its a better system.
but as a casual gamer who doesnt want to spend more than he has to; the xbox is prbably a better fit for you fancy.
its easier to play, and more arcady (if thats what you want).
the PS3 is more like a computer IMO, and way more complicated (more for the nerds and freaks like myself).

PS3 is better, but dont get me wrong; i love my xbox and still play the crap out of it... i actually spent all saturday night at my buddy's house whooping his ass on it...
for what you're looking for, the xbox will do you fine.... you'll love it.

Fancy, I suggest the 360. Don't over spend on a console and a PS3 is tad too pricey still. Plus, the games are about the same. I bought mine last year, I love it, play it all the time. I play both actually, but the 360 is a nice little machine.

Thug 05-20-2008 04:54 PM

Meh, aren't the prices for the 2 systems around the same thing?

fancylad 05-20-2008 06:42 PM

cool. thanks guys.

Price really is an issue for me. so it looks like i'll get the XBOX ($279). still, not really sure about getting the memory stick option over the hard drive. Is 526 mb enough for 7-10 games?

Krazy Ivan 05-20-2008 07:09 PM

360 arcade is crap as you will soon learn that you need hard disk... also with it you don't get headset, network cable and HD cable.

prices are as follows:

360 arcade $279
360 20 Gb $349
360 elite 120 Gb $449

PS3 40Gb $399
PS3 80GB $499

PS3 has internet browser, blu-ray, built in wireless, free online, 7.1 sound system and it's more reliable and much less noisy.

360 has better online, included headset & larger selection of games.

All in all PS3 has more to offer then 360 but 360 is a better system for gaming.

OK. here's my main question then....

Why is a hard drive in the XBOX 360 so important? For ONLY playing video games and saving game related data, is the 256 mb memory stick not enough?

Like my PS2 doesn't have a hard drive, yet games work just fine on it. Hell my PS2 memory stick is 8 mb. 8!!! and it seems big enough for my needs.

Some of you guys definately seem to know your shit... so, should i really spend the extra money and get the hard drive (if i won't seemingly need it)?

No you should spend the extra money and get the PS3. We are talking about 100 bucks here....

...If I told you I can get you a top of the line Blue Ray DVD player for a hundred bones....would you do it??

Aside from that and most importantly, my XBOX was in for repairs 4 times....in a year. Its awful and it sounds like a jet is taking off every time you use it.

i love how fancy's question still hasn't been answered!

There is a lot of game demos that you can download if you want to try them before you buy... some demos are well over 1 Gb in size... also you can purchase old school arcade games that are lot of fun... they can be up to 350Mb for one... then if you download music, videos, trailers and other crap you'll fill 20Gb HDD real fast little less 256Mb card... and most important some games get patches (updates) to fix problems... they can be 20 to 50Mb is size... trust me you appetite will only grow not go down...

I upgraded my HDD to 256Gb and I already have over 150Gb on it... I did install several games (it's an option that makes game run smoother and load faster).

The question is flawed....but to follow up...256 may not be enough, keep in mind the files and video on games is MUCH MUCH bigger than a PS2.....I stress MUCH.

I am looking at a Wii , but I'm afraid it's too gimmicky.

I will only play sports. Is it as good as they say?

This should probably go in a different thread, but anyway,

I've got a Wii and its perfect for casual gaming, and what I mean by that is like at a party or playing with people who aren't so much into games. The sports games like bowling, golfing, boxing, pool are really a lot of fun cause everyone can play and its easy to learn. I got mine so I could play some games with my wife and daughter as they found the PS2 controller too hard to control. There's also a few other great games like Mario Party, Mario Galaxy and Wario, which is friggin hilarious! Theres always people who say that its too gimmicky, but they are always the ones who join in when they see how much fun we're having.

However, if you want to play more serious games like RPGs and such I would suggest a different console. I've got a PS2 and saving up for a PS3.

Basketball was God awful on Wii... on the other side Baseball, Football & Soccer were good and games like tennis or golf play well... you should check out gaming stores (like eb games) or large electronic stores (FutureShop or Best Buy) they should have Wii in store and you can try it out... have in mind that some people love Wii while some hate it... no way of knowing until you try.

fancylad 05-21-2008 07:13 AM

In the end... i think my question has been answered. Thanks Ivan.

Although i'm now leaning towards the 20 gig, I'm pretty sure i can upgrade the the cheap one and install a hard drive afterwards if i want to, so i may just get that one and save some cash for now.

(and yes... Benzo the PS3 is very tempting. just don't think i can spend $400 on the system. i'd rather spend $279).
