it's not ridiculous at all. buses need to be shut down if the snow can't be cleared in time, but the schools need to stay open because many kids (probably most in big cities) don't take the bus to school, and it can't be closed when they get there.

My car is in the garage with no intention of bringing it out, too much snow on the driveway to make it out.

I just finished shoveling the snow off my car. Our AC is buried under the snow.

I counted 32 cm so far over here. This is of course unofficial.

It's the worst snowfall to hit St. Catharines in 29 years.

A fierce winter storm blasted Niagara Friday with a record snowfall that shut down schools and public buildings and caused havoc on the roads.

The storm dumped 30 cm of snow in St. Catharines and 20 cm on the south part of the region while wind gusts of up to 50 km/h caused whiteout conditions at times.

“We're not only dealing with the falling snow, we're dealing with the fact it's being picked up and blown around by these gusting winds,” said Geoff Coulson, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.

The accumulation surpassed the 24-hour high of 26.4 cm that fell in St. Catharines in December 2008 and was the most snow in one day since Feb. 28, 1984, when the city was slammed with 46.8 cm.

Glad i put on my snow tires this year. I was just plowing through the snow not missing a bit. Only to bottom out at a side street today.

Took two hours to to shovel the snow and that was with a snow blower.

Snow, snow and more snow. And some more snow after that... Every time it starts to fade out, it snows again.
