Thumbs up Howard Stern re-signs with Satelite radio

Don't know who listens to him around here, but man am i thrilled about this. My Sat radio broke down 6-7 months ago and didn't want to buy another one until i knew he was staying. Now i can listen to a lot less Fan590 and go back to entertaining radio.

Howard Stern has decided to remain with Sirius Satellite Radio. Shock jock signs new five-year deal and dubs terrestrial radio dead. Take our PollSirius Listeners
Are you happy to hear that Howard Stern is remaining with Sirius Satellite Radio?

"If we're going to stay in radio, we should stay here," Stern told listeners and his staff Thursday morning. "We're in an incredible position and suddenly there's real growth. It's a real business."

Stern rocked the radio world in 2005 when he started at Sirius backed with a $500 million contract. His renewal announcement came with just a handful of regular shows left in his current deal.

Stern declined to discuss his salary, though he said earlier this week he wouldn't take a pay cut.

"The contract was fair," Stern said. "I know Sirius was happy with it and I'm happy with it."

One of the keys to the deal was Sirius would be distributed on other platforms, such as the iPhone, which hadn't been in place before.

The announcement ended months of speculation and hand wringing over his future and the future of Sirius. Five years ago, his move to Sirius led to millions of new subscribers for the company, many of which followed from terrestrial radio. At the time, Sirius had just 600,000 listeners. Now, through his arrival and a merger with competitor XM Radio, along with additional marketing and business deals, the company reaches as many as 20 million people.

"Deep down in my heart I knew I wanted to stay here," Stern said.

Stern said he'd considered other offers along the way, but ultimately decided Sirius was the way to go. He reiterated that he thought terrestrial radio was dead.

He said he hoped all of his staff, who all negotiate separate deals, would stay with him.

He did say there would be some changes to his workload, but said those deals are still being worked out.

"Sirius is allowing me a lot of flexibility with the show," he said. "I guarantee there will be plenty of me to go around."

Babbabooey

Problem with Stern fans is they take his word as gospel. He's entertaining and intelligent, but says things to get a rise.

Just the same, it's good to know he is still going. Although I dont listen anymore.

Yep!

Well worth every penny. When he went to Sirius they had 600k subscribers and XM had about 1Mil. They now have 20Mil subscribers. The guy is money in the bank.

does he still spend most of his time bickering with his crew? there was a time when he was hilarious, but the last 7 or so years that he was on regular radio he was unlistenable because instead of being funny he was just arguing and being a schmuck. i hoped that he would go back to being funny on sirius, but i can't be bothered to pay for radio just to listen to stern be a douche. is he still bickering like an 8 year old?

Thats about the time I turn off Bob McCowan. When he starts to needlessly make fun of his guests and crew. When did this become entertainment?

No not really, He interacts alot with his producers and some of the crew. But he's 100x better on satelite then he was on regular radio. No comparison imo. And when he has Chris Rock in, George Takai or Gilbert Godfrey co hosting i can't stop laughing.
