Question Home theatre (surround sound)

I bought an LG home Theatre for surround sound yesterday and am having a bitch of a time getting everything to work properly and since i'm thechnologycally illiterate i was wondering if anyone here has a system and if they had any problems? BTW, i tested the speakers through the receiver and they work so i'm guessing it's connected wrong with the TV/HD box??

HELP!

PS, sorry i put this in the wrong forum.

Luckly for you...it is my part time job.

First thing is, you should never by "home theatre in a box" with that said. I need a few more details. What are you using for TV? cable, bell? also, does the receiver have a DVD play built in?

How are you connecting, HDMI, componant etcc???

I've got Rogers HD box and am using HDMI cables. It came with a built in Blue ray DVD player and IPOD doc if that helps?

So if you play a DVD, I'm assuming the audio works. In order for HDMI to work everything must be HDMI.

So if you are HDMI from the Rogers box to the receiver the output from the Receiver must be HDMI to the tv, how are you connecting the Receiver to to TV?

coax from the rogers box to the reciever, but also connect the audio cables... then connect the rogers box directly to the tv via hdmi.

I would send that LG system back. Wait till it gets closer to boxing day then pick up the bose 10 speaker system from besct buy/futureshop for half price (reg1299 boxing day 599) and pair that with a deacent 200 dollar yamaha reciever and call it a day. Oh a LG is prob one of the worst electronic companies out there...

If you go coax from Rogers to receiver, you will have some crazy degradation in quality.

The picture is fine, no?

Coaxial > Rogers Box > HDMI > TV

The Audio would just be either and optical digital audio out or the orange digital audio out coaxial from the Rogers box into the receiver.

Sadly, i don't have a clue??

I just changed the connections and it's fine. Electronics and me don't mix, lol.

I think i need an electronics for dummies book. Maybe that's what i should ask for, for Christmas. Don't we have a thread about what we want for Christmas? lol
