I don't hate Clapton per se, I hate that there's about a million guitarists in the world both past and present that you'll never hear of that are infinitely better than him.

Perhaps his hand is just slower than theirs.

That's where the reputation really comes from - the early days. He was good, he was popular, it had to do with the time, etc.

Good on her but I don't get it. Why wouldn't she go all the way and say the hell with all of it, take off and join a secular school. Surely the stance on abortion isn't the only thing she'd take issue with, being a woman.

Indeed. It is similar to something that I've argued before: if you support abortions, in what meaningful sense can you still identify as Catholic?

I also detest the supposed "pro-life vs pro-choice" dichotomy. A bunch of bs framing and political positioning going on there.

actually, i meant it in a different way - the refusal to participate in silence. the rest of the school was taking a vow of silence in favour of the anti-abortion cause. she refused to take part in that, meaning she did not want to be compelled to be silent along with everyone else.

sometimes, and i have no idea wif this is the case here, a child does not get to choose the school their parents enroll them in. perhaps she had no choice but t o be there. dunno.

my experience of Catholicism is that there are different streams, one that can accept things like sex before marriage and various other arrangements that work within the local community. More and more the Vatican has grown out-of-touch and somewhat irrelevant. And they remain challenged on whole host of fronts, like the participation of women within the hierarchy or the role of sex within the priesthood, all by people who consider themselves very Catholic.

When it comes to abortion though, the noisy radicals take the Vatican's position and run with it, and make it much more imposing than anything else that goes on with the church. I was looking at being exposed to anti-abortion propaganda in religious classes. I got my parents to sign a form allowing me to drop out of religion classes altogether. I ended up with a half spare. It was a good deal.
