You still got a month before the majority of it kicks in. And as awesome as Discovery is, I like the National Geographic Channel more.

I don't know what I'd do without television or the internet. I swear, if I was a single man without child, I'd be perfectly content living in a cardboard box as long as I had a TV, computer and internet, food, cigarettes and beer.

A friend of mine and his girlfriend used to preach about the evils of television and how they were proud to not have one and yet when they came over to my house I could never get them to leave because they were glued to my TV.

TV is absolutely evil. I can remember when there was just little black and white sets. I saw the moon landing on one of those. There was nothing that really got you stuck to it like a magnet. It was like the internet when it first started. It was there, and pretty cool, but only worth small bits of time. Then when we got our first big color console everything changed. I mean all of life changed. And yes - even the people that go cold turkey fall right back into the trance. I've been there a few times myself, and known many others.

Now today, my tube HDTV died. It was a great TV. Amazing picture whether there was HD signal or not. Damn. It's been dying a slow death over the last few weeks, and I was hoping it would hold out until LED prices dropped. I'm guessing I'll get something fairly small and cheap for now. LCD. Any further word on Aquos LG or Samsung?

I was holding out for LED prices to drop too.

I might just go to The Brick and take advantage of the don't pay until 2011 and grab one. The new Sharp sets are made in China and apparently the quality isn't that great. The Sony and Samsung sets are still the best I've seen regardless of whether it's one of their hi-end sets or one of their more affordable models.

Look into westinghouse, the have some monitor style LCD's that are top notch for Value and quality. I had a Westinghouse W4207, as Metal|Rasam, it was fucking great.

I've got a 50" Samsung plasma here with the boys, split $1500 8 ways, you'd swear you were looking through a window. Another 50" Samsung plasma back at home, about three years old, picture is top-shelf, still runs as efficient as a heat pump, no signs of burning in or anything.

Just from experience I don't think you can go wrong with Samsung. My buddy had an LG LCD that burnt out quick-time, maybe 2.5 years, he wasn't too pleased.

Well - I went and got the Samsung LN40B550. I went for a bit of a tweener model. And I'm happy so far. The sales guy tried to get me to pay 200 bucks for some guy to tweak all the settings. Man I want that job.

The hardest part about setting up was just moving the old CRT, and I mean just getting it off the stand. The thing weighs 200 pounds. It's nuts.

my parents bought a tube HDTV before the 2004 olympics, they didn't really even watch sports lol but we got it back when plasmas were way to expensive and silver tvs were cool...a few months later, plasma tv prices fell by a lot ...I got the HD box and my ps3 set up to the tube tv and both look great.

Was it as hard as having to move your massive box of DVDs, Mr. Movie Buff?

I used to have a 43" DLP set. While not as heavy as a CRT set, it was still a beast.
