Yeah, I'm leaning towards the Aquos thrills, but a little bit bigger than the 37". I already have at 32" so I'd like something in the 40's this time around.

Make sure it's in a big room. I used to have a 43" DLP set and I had it in a smallish rec room and it was a little overwhelming.

One question i have. I have a 42' Panasonic Plasma, have had it 6 months now. But why is it that when watching HD highlights on Sportsnet/TSN/Score/Rapstv, they aren't very clear. All live events on these chanels are amazing but when watching the highlights they aren't clear. This also happens when the Raps games are replayed on Raptorstv (HD).

Maybe this is a stupid question but.....?

dont get a plasma if u play games or linger on channels, a couple my friends have had lines burnt in to their plasma's due to this, it sux to have to zoom in on chan's to get rid of lingering ad's that will burn into your TV.

I got a 47 inch LG LCD 1080p for $1100 no tax, not a bad deal.

Jeff, alot of highlights are played in non HD, that is the prob, just like you can prob tell if things were filmed with HD camera's or not, even on HD chan's they dont look quite as good. It's no big deal bro, it's not your TV. Also, rogers sux sometimes on connections, u can get mpeg issues that have nothing to do with your TV.

I may be wrong jeff, but the highlight shows and Rap game rebroadcasts aren't in HD, so your set is probably stretching them to fit, hence the degradation of picture quality.

I'm just thinking aloud here but when Sportscentre does its highlights, it has to borrow the rights from all the TV stations whose highlights it's reshowing. My guess is that HD highlights are way more expensive than regular highlights which is why no one sees HD highlights, not just you. The actual broadcast is in HD, which I'm sure you notice when they go back to the desk.

Same deal with Raptors TV. They have to buy the game off of the broadcasting station in order to replay it in the first place, and I'm sure the HD broadcast is sold at a premium.

Actually Burning has been fixed in the last few years with the better quality Plasma Tv's (Panasonic,Sony etc....)I play video games constantly on my Plasma and have no problems, great for movies too. Wow though, great price
on that LCD, i got my Plasma for $1059.oo tax incl. And you got a 47' for $1100, nice.

my buddies plasma is pretty new and it happened to him, maybe an anomoly, but it kept me from getting one, also they are so hot and use so much eletricity, but i will admit the quality is slightly better.

Yea im pretty happy with my TV, altho i shopped around for about a month to get that price, i can get some that "fell off the truck" so to speak, but i dont like not having a warrenty.

i recently bought a 46" lcd samsung for about $1100. plasma can be cheaper, but uses so much more energy to operate that in the long run it's more expensive. there's a great store in richmond hill called golden electronics. they deal exclusively in samsung and have fantastic prices.

What brand of Plasma did he have? I'm sure it happens, but when i bought mine, i asked about the burning effect and i was told it's been rectified with the better quality tv's and then he went on about LCD for well lit rooms and Plasma for darker rooms.

Basically he explained to me that the newer plasma's have a mechanism within them that recognizes when something is still for a prolonged amount of time, ie; video game scoreboard, and it moves it slightly therefore it's not stagnant!

plasma has better picture quality and color IMO
LCD is brighter but if you watch it from the side the quality goes down, or did they fix that

Yup! Plasma is better in dark rooms and is better for movies. And LCD is better in well lit rooms and gives a better picture for video games.

I find that Plasma tv's have better more natural colours. Whereas the LCD tv is more bright exaggerated colours

LCD doesnt have the colour black-only a void of any other colour-that is why Plasma looks a little better, especially in the dark room.

Do you have a button on your remote to adjust the scaling?

If so, you can try watching it in standard 4:3.

The picture won't be as big, but it'll be clearer.
