has anyone ever used a boil and bite mouthguard for basketball?

i bought one for my braces but it keeps falling out when i open my mouth. Also, i have a bad gag reflex and always want to gag when its in my mouth.

used to use one during tae kwon do tournaments...never bothered using them when playing basketball...you might wanna get a custom mouthguard if the other one isn't really fitting well.

yep...but i used my for football...

you drop it in boiling water for how ever long the packaging tells you to....then cool it in cold water (cool it just enough so that you can put it in your mouth) and pretty much bite it...and it retains the shape...and your good to go...

cant help you with your gag reflex....but if it keeps falling out, you might have left it in the boiling water too long...

and it should fit perfectly, otherwise its really uncomfortable...

never really used it for basketball though...

Be a man just drop it in there and then make sure none of the boiling water is left and put the thing in your mouth!

I used to have them for squash when I was like 10 years old (because other kids sucked and would knock your damn teeth out).

Gag reflex? Just relax, open your throat baby ;)

Um......

Reni, don't make it so easy for me buddy.....

the problem is that i cut the hinge that touches your back teeth so that my crooked teeth would fit. now i think it wont hang on my teeth. as for the gag reflex, when im running, should i keep mouth closed? when itry to open and breathe, mouthguard drops down and i choke.

Do you have to use it? I used to play league basketball and I never wore one :|

the wiring could cut my mouth and if the braces break, i will have to pay for it all over again.

Someguy again 07-29-2010 10:08 PM

you have braces? k

theres certain mouthguards that your dentist can recommend, but i stongly recommend a type of boil mouthguard for boxers, i use this one:
Walmart.com: Everlast High Performance Brain Pad Mouth Guard: Team Sports

http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/00...49_215X215.jpg

I onced used a normal boil and bite mouthguard and when i got elbowed my jaw got fucked and i was deaf in my left ear for a month, these mouthguards have strong wisdom tooth protection and a hole for breathing so you can keep your mouth closed during games, also once a month try to boil and re-adjust it again

the walmart one you showed me dont fit braces though. i got a reebok smart mouth braces from hockey life in vaughn mills.

I used the boil and bite mouthguard with my braces (for tennis, basketball, and lacrosse) and they worked just fine for me. Did you boil yours for too long? :confused2:

fancylad 01-12-2011 01:12 PM
