In the new video for the White Stripes "Icky Thump," Jack is seen playing a vintage Gretsch White Penguin. This was a solidbody version of Gretsch's well known (and expensive) White Falcon and is one of the rarest guitars on the planet. It is easy to tell that this is a vintage Penguin since it has two selector switches on the lower bass bout above the fretboard - which is visible in the picture above taken from the video "Icky Thump." Modern Penguins only have one selector switch. If you are lucky enough to find a vintage Penguin be prepared to shell out some cash as they tend to go for about $80,000 - $100,000 depending on condition. I'm not sure if Jack actually bought this guitar or only rented it for the video, but since he's worth about $37 million at the moment, I wouldn't be surprised if he did decide to add it to his collection of rare vintage gear.

Studios often own crazy expensive gear with awesome tones for recording purposes. Not saying that this is the reason he has one in this video, just a possibility. Of course he's probably richer than god now, so he could pretty much buy anything he wants...

Yeah, I'm sure he can afford it or someone lent it to him for the video.

It looks like a tricked out Duo Jet.

I picked up my AC30 head from Steve's Music yesterday.

I used at our gig last night. It's pretty loud...

It has to be a beast. Wasnt it a pain in the ass to move though?. I decided that instead of a guitar Im getting a new amp now. Im getting either the fender vibrolux or the twin reverb. I want the twin but 85 W and 64 pounds its too heavy and loud. I dont want to blow up my ears and my back. The vibrolux has an awesome sound too but with 40 W and 42 pounds.
The problem is it doesnt have Middle equalizer and thats something I missed in my Reverb deluxe.

thoughs?

It's not heavy at all.

The cabinet is 47lbs. and the head is about 40lbs.

My AC30 combo amp is about 70lbs, so it's an extra trip, but less weight to carry all at once.

We carry a Rhodes piano into every gig, so amps never seem heavy.

If I were you I'd go with the Twin. It's by far the best sounding Fender amp I've ever used. If you're worried about weight you can always put it on castors (wheels) and roll it around. To me nothing sounds better than two 12" speakers.

The fact that the twin comes with wheels does help.

Seriously, get the Twin. Can't your buddies help you lift it?

of course , but it is a pain in the ass to get it to the car and all that stuff lol. Im pretty convinced about getting it. Although the fact that it is too loud still makes me doubt. It will be OK for gigging but it will be difficult to cranck it in my rehearsel room.

Seriously, lifting it is a small price to pay for that glorious tone.

Are you going to keep your other Fender or are you going to trade it in?

If you keep it use it for rehearsal.

Four gigs I've played in the last week with a spained knuckle on my fretting hand. Three of the gigs playing jazz, funk and blues on bass.

Good thing I'm not a soft Euro.

Perfect.

Call her up. Ask her for some lessons...

I like the way her right boob sits on her bass.
