prince is the one that is out of place for sure, but i don't see how jerry garcia could be considered untrustworthy.

I do love prince and i would lean toward him over the dead when it comes to musical taste, but i was more or less kidding.... hence the cookie.

Actually musical genius aside, i could see why someone might label prince a bit of a douche.

The "Gigantic" iPhone commercial has me curious about digital guitar amps/effects. You need an iRig adapter to plug your guitar into the phone/tablet, but then there's no output other than headphones? Even if you could route the sound to an amp/soundboard I imagine that a digital effects app would be almost useless without some sort of way to control it with your feet?

it really is annoying how much cheaper and better amazon.com is compared to amazon.ca. Or music equipment in general in the US compared to us. congrats on the score.

I'm finally getting around to making a little home recording setup. I'm shopping around for audio interfaces right now. Hopefully some of you dudes have some experience in this. This may seem like a stupid question, but is it normal for audio interfaces to not plug into a wall jack? I was at a friend's yesterday and the only cable that he used was a usb connecting to the computer the music input - no power source cable. I only ask this because i am looking at one on kijiji and it seems to be similar to my friends only a bit bigger and it does have a space for a power/AC chord only i didn't see one pictured in the photo.

My AI is the same. Direct USB to my Mac. Make sure you have phantom power in you audio interface though. You need it for condensors. I picked up a real cheap on kijiji for 40 bucks a couple years back and it still works well. I use the maudio mk2. Only one xlr and one 1/4 inch recording inputs. But it has direct monitoring and a 1/4 inch output to plug headphones. I suggest a focusrite. I've been looking at those for a bit now, may be upgrade after my guitar upgrade.

thanks box92. Good advise. I don't know too much about this stuff, so the more people tell me the better. I basically want to spend around $40 for a second hand one, but the pickins are pretty slim on kijiji right now. Not sure how much longer i'll hold out for a used one or if i'll just bite the bullet and get a new one.

need some advice from all the music experts

i've always loved the piano and have been contemplating taking lessons for years now..only thing holding me back was having one at home to practice on (space being the major issue)
was in my local Long and McQuade the other day picking up some strings for my son in laws guitar when i noticed some digital pianos...there was one in particular that caught my eye...

the Yamaha YDP142

don't know what he's saying () but the video gives a pretty good idea on the sound

there is also a YDP162...but at about $600 more

need some honest feedback/opinions/advice

thanks for any replies

i can't comment on that keyboard - i just don't know anything about it. i am pretty bad, but have kinda been in the same boat as you - i wanted one to learn on. so i bought a yamaha p-95. i highly recommend it (or a p-85) as a beginners keyboard. 88 weighted keys, pretty good sound, and only 25 lbs, so easy to move and store if you don't always want one out and about in your house.

i suck at keys, but i love my p-95. and they are usually less than $600, new.

Review Yamaha P-95 - Piano Digital - YouTube
thanks trane...much appreciated

after watching that video, i looked around for more and stumbled onto the P-105...really like it and it's a decent price as well ($669 at Long and McQuade)...stand ($110) and stool ($70 ?) are extra of course

i think it's going to come down to what looks/fits better in my solarium...figuring out the measurements for both

going to head over tomorrow and take a much closer second look...i'd like to purchase sometime after Christmas...either one will make a nice gift from Santa
