Yes man, the one written by Van the Man, not the U2 song.

Three chords...E D A.

Hey guys, I need to buy a laptop to record and all that stuff. Most musicians I know tell me to go with Macbook Pro but they are overly expensive, and the reviews I read in the internet dont convince me 100%. Doesnt help Ive always been anti-mac.

This one is the one I have in mind in any case:

Portátil Apple 13'' MacBook Pro MC700Y/A Intel Core i5 - Ordenadores - Portátiles - El Corte Inglés - Informática

Not sure though. I know I can buy a great asus laptop for 500 euros less.

hey Bel, i don't know enough about the details of recording with a mac, but if you do end up deciding to go with one, i'd suggest getting a refurb off mac's website. I got mine that way and it saved my something like $300. Not sure if European market has something like that available.

And another thing, the difference between the standard mac book and the pro are pretty small. You can always buy additional memory and put it in to the mac book and bob's your uncle.

Yeah, we have those here too. But its not an option because I have to buy from that specific shop in the link I posted.

Im completely torn right now. I found this great article, but it doesnt really give solutions. Just points that both have their good and bads.

Which is Best for Music? Mac Vs. PC

there was a time when mac was better for the average user for both graphics and recording, but that has passed. they both do the same things. one advantage with mac is that you get garage band for free which can be a very useful and powerful recording solution. in my experience, it is also easier to set up protools or other recording software packages on a mac, as you have fewer driver conflicts and the like. but that may not be universally true. just my experience.

Thats what kills me about windows. Im in a constant war with my computer to make sounds cards, midi keyboards, drum machines, etc.. run correctly because my pc has motherboard problems. From what ive heard that an advantage from Mac, but Im not sure anymore.

I would use Cubase or Protools.

i have protools and a macbook pro. it works really well. once i got the initial kinks worked out, i have had no real conflicts. buffer size can be an issue, but protools is a hog that way. to be honest, garage band has worked just as well and has no issues at all because it comes installed. there are few things that the average user is doing that garage band can't handle, with vastly less cost.

Portátil Sony Vaio 15,5" VPCCB3Z8E Intel Core i7 2640M - Ordenadores - Portátiles - El Corte Inglés - Informática

Portátil Apple 13'' MacBook Pro MC700Y/A Intel Core i5 - Ordenadores - Portátiles - El Corte Inglés - Informática

Both the same price more or less. Sony one is really powerful. Is it worth to go with Mac?

it depends. if you want more power for the cost, the sony would be the way to go, but it has the potential for more long-term conflict management issues. i think that's your trade-off. for someone with plenty of computer experience who does not mind the tinkering that comes with set-up conflicts, the sony is an easy choice. for me, i went with mac because i thought it was worth the money to not have to deal with that stuff. i am a lazy computer user. but it has not been completely glitch free either.

i would add that a large screen (or a second screen) is really helpful for protools. i would be very frustrated to work in pro tools on a 13 inch screen.

so i am thinking of upgrading my axe for something a little nicer. Currently i have a korean squier bullet. i believe this is the cheapest guitar with the fender name. At least it was when i bought it when i was in grade 9.

anyways, i see now that songbird music is out of business. I loved that shop (got my amp there second hand for a great price). Anyone know of any places that sell second hand guitars here in the GTA?

12th fret on danforth is good - mostly acoustic and hollow-body.

paul's boutique in kensington is an amazing store.

capsule music on queen west is also solid.

thanks. I was looking at the 12th fret website and from what i gather all of their used stuff seems way out of my price range. Do they have budget minded options as well?

I'll definitely hit up that kensington store next time i'm in the area. Is it on Agusta?

12th fret is mostly vintage stuff. that's where i bought my gibson. it's a great store.

here's the website for paul's boutique.

Paul's Boutique // Toronto's finest vintage musical instruments, guitars, basses, amps, effects and recording equipment

i look at guitars as acquiring assets, not spending money. it's about priorities, man!

fancy, go try out some guitars (I assume you're leaning towards a Fender) and find out what you want. Let me know and I'll see what kind of price I can get you at my buddy's store.
