if you want to record, there are a few options. but what i was talking about is just playing the music from your mac the and then playing along with it on your amp. this isn't about recording, as much as jamming.

if you want to record, we would have to have a bigger conversation.

If you want to go direct into your computer and don't want to deal with a mic and an amp, I'd recommend any of the Pod Farm recording interfaces. They're relatively cheap and sound great. My son's usually in bed when I record, so I needed something quiet. It's USB and has a collection of amps, effects, compressors and gates modeled after classic models. You can fart around with mic placement, different amp/cabinet combos and all the other settings. It's uber-quiet and a lot of fun. It has an instrument input as well as XLR inputs. Lots of presets, etc.

Plug it in, turn it up and giver 'er.

If there's any tunes you want to figure out, check out youtube. You can usually find some guy on there teaching (albeit sometimes wrong) the way to play a tune. For someone just starting up again, I think seeing someone demonstrate how to play it is probably easier and better than reading a chart or tab.

Won't Get Fooled Again always gets me in the mood after a stretch of not playing. It's like guitar porno.

There's the basic model without the meters and no XLR input and that's a hundred bucks online. Other than that, IK Multimedia manufactures one called Stealth which utilizes their Amplitube software which is kinda crappy and also a hundred bucks. IK also makes the iRig for the iPod or iPad and that's 40.

Yeah, that's what I do with a Roland Edirol UM1, which is old. I don't know what the current model is. They're about 30 bucks.

I'm thinking of tackling Johnny b. good now. Is it a hard solo?

The intro its easy and cool to play. Sounds more difficult than it really is. I prefer the Hendrix cover.
