thats what they cost in MAdrid. 2000 euros for les paul standard. Not a big fan of gibsons so I cant really tell. It is weird, cause they are typically really heavy.

The price sounds right, but the description doesn't.

Thanks guys, so you haven't listened anything about a lighter Les Paul, it looks a little bit strange (I thought it was a known thing and people had listened about it). I'll try to look for it in the net, I'm really curious about this.

I don't know either Acie. I'm going to look for that at the Gibson's site. When I know something I'll post here.

to confirm what model he got, use the serial number. It should somewhere in the guitar. And then search in the net.

http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Support/SerialNumberSearch/

Quote:
The serial number will be an 8 digit number impressed into the back of the headstock with "MADE IN USA" below.
Quote:
NOTE - Gibson USA goes to a 9 digit serial number in early July 2005..
The sixth number is now a batch number- batch 0 starts at the beginning of the day, and once we stamp 699, the batch number will change to 1. The first 5 numbers remain the same, the last 3 numbers will remain the same. The only difference is the addition of this batch indicator.

Thanks Belsius, I'll ask him the number cause I think he hasn't Internet at home.

Guitar looks like '60s model:

But I really don't know if it is that model or what it is.

No page says anything about the body or that change, I'm beginnig to think that my friend has been deceived in some way. Well, I hope someday we will know ...

Now I'm remembering that model, it has the flat body and the same thickness than a SG guitar.

This guitar looks like a standard with his "belly". The difference with the pic that I have just posted is that my friend's one the world "standard" isn't written at the same place, it's written in the same place that the worlds "Les Paul". It sounds great ( well, with a Marshall 2000), but it's lighter than the other guy's guitar ( Gibson LP Studio).

I'll ask him the serial number and we'll see what's up with that guitar.

I didn't find anything in your link Belsius, so l looked for some more link and I found this:

http://www.guitardaterproject.org/gibson.aspx

It doesn't say anything about what guitar is, just that it was made in the Nashville plant and that was made in 2008-01-08. It looks like I'll stay with my curious unsatisfied.

well, At least you know its a gibson, and not a fake one. Thats the important thing. A solution would be to exactly weight the guitar and compare it the Les Paul models. If you noticed it was lighter then, there should be enough diference to distinct what model it is.

Good idea Belsius, but I don't think guy does it, he's happy that his Standard weights less (he's skinny). I was more worried than him about this till he explained me all what he knew.

He told me somethings that he hadn't told me before: the thing about doing lighter bodies in the Les Paul models is running since 10 years ago or so. He was said by the shop's guy ( I didn't know they were friends, so I will trust in him) that it was thus because people's rant about the heavy LP's body. Only Custom models are built with a solid body now. The shop's guy said that they watched it in the guitars' X-rays the empty spots that made the guitar lighter.

I had no clue about this, and I really don't like: why change the guitar when it works great.

Dudes, I'm stoked. I just got a brand new EHX Micro POG for $160.00 shipped. That's about fifty dollars cheaper than it goes for without shipping included.

I'm not surprised by that price. That's a beauty right there, and 1966... Not that I can pay that amount, but there are lots of folks who can. I don't think it's too ridiculous.

The title of this thread irks me. Unless of course it is just a matter of deciding 2nd place...

Dr. J named it, maybe we can get it changed to "Gear Appreciation Thread."

I'd never pay that much for a guitar simply because I'd never play it. I'd be too afraid of hurting it.

And BTW, bring it on trane.

We'll have a duel a la Crossroads...
