Blowing the dust off this thread...

I'm not a fan of blues or guitar noodling, but I love Stevie and his Texas hybrid. So smooth and looks awesome doing it with his great backing band.

Such a thick sound. Its insane how strong had to be his hand to play in such a brutal way on 13s.

The best Strat sound this side of Hendrix.

What gage strings do you guys use?

I don't know if it's from playing bass a lot in the last while, but I use .10s and lately I've been snapping the high E and B easily when I bend them.

Might be time for .11s or *gasp* .12s.

I use .09's because I don't want to damage my genius fingers.

I have almost always played .10s. Some years ago I went with .11s for a while, but now that I play electric most of the time, I prefer .10s. For most rock guitarist I would say its the best choice.

i use .10 flatwounds. the guitar is huge enough in sound to not need massive strings.

String gauge
Stevie tunes his guitar down a half-step and uses GHS Nickel Rockers measuring .013, .015, .019 (plain), .028, .038, and .058. On this particular day, Rene had substituted an .011 for the high E to keep down the sore fingers that blues bends can cause. Rene changes strings every show for each guitar that gets played.

I use these...

Always have, and probably always will. I also haven't changed strings - acoustic or electric - in 3 years.

I have flat wounds on my violin bass.

When I play live though my hands sweat so much though that I found that the stings felt "gummy".

I use Dean Markley "Blue Steel" strings. They last forever and I'm lazy and don't like to change strings.
