I have prohibited myself from buying pedals, I have all the gear I need, but when I start talking pedals I get so tempted. Such a tease...

I play an Ibanez RG 320. And have a Roland cube 30x.

I like the Ibanez... but am not too into heavy metal.. shredding or pinch harmonics and those kinda sounds. I play more blues-ish and am looking for a nice Gibson ... but I dont have the money lol.

Trading in your ride for a Gibson and a tube amp might be a pretty good idea.

What about trading the Ibanez in? The Epiphones (originals and Gibson knockoffs) aren't too shabby - especially the Casino.

I like Ibanez hollow body guitars. The typical shredding ones not much.

John Scofield's is sweet.

obviously i am biased here, but the gibson's are infinitely better to play than those ibanez's. they're bright, top to bottom, and the sound is unmistakeably richer and deeper. the engineering is just superior. you can either buy cheap gear or quality gear. both have their advantages, but buying mid-range gear is always a mistake, imo. if you're going to spend money, go all teh way and get something you will treasure, not something you wish you could upgrade a couple of years from now.

just my opnion.

I agree that buying mid range gear frecuently is not a very good idea. Depends on your needs really. But Scofields Ibanez is 2500 $, thats hardly mid range.

Still, like gibsons, you know I think they are overpriced.

Can those hollow body guitars still give me a decent metal sound as well? The reason I'm asking... I play with.. I wouldn't call it a band.. but some ppl and we go around doing youth retreats and stuff... but they stuff we play isn't a set or anything with one style... it's completely random. Can the hollow body still give me a diversified sound?

If anyone lives in Ottawa... I'll be down there May 14/15 playing near parliament hill at a youth retreat around 500ish people... it's free and free lunch. And I'll throw in your favourite lick from any song if I get a solo

Get a Gibson SG.

You can get good metal, blues, jazz, rock and country sounds out of it.

I own two mid-range Fenders and I love them. It's way more about how you play them.

sure, put a mid-range fender in the hands of kenny burrell and he'll make it sing, buut put a super 400 in his hands and it sounds infinitely better.

I disagree. Acoustic guitars are a different story but with electrics, it's such a subtle difference and a difference that could be made to disappear by way of a variety of techniques and equipment. I mean, there are bad sounding guitars, but I'm talking about guitars that sound good, regardless of the price differential.

My wife's friend's son asked if his band could open up for us. They're 11 and 12 years old I believe. They were pretty funny, but I wasn't thrilled about their choice of band name.
