Acie dont be biased and recomend him to start with a Strat lol. Best guitar for begginers.

If he starts with an electric.

I would recomend to start playing an acustic though.

I usually recomend a yamaha pacifica for begginers. "Decent" quality for the prize.

I dont know that much about acustics. Takamine and Yamaha make good acustic for their prize dont they.

Yamaha are nice. I like them.

There is also a couple of really nice Canadian made acoustics lines...Norman and Seagull.

yeah, I think yamaha knows how to do good quality-low prize stuff. Thats the japanese style hehe.

I had heard about seagull acustics before. Never played one though.

I have a Rosewood Takamine acoustic/electric and I love it, dont know how good it is in terms of what is available but it treats me well, not too expensive either.

I kinda like the idea of starting with electric.

I assume there are a lot of differences sound wise

Starting out on an acoustic in the long run will make you a better player.

Your fingers will get stronger and your dexterity will be better because the strings are heavier and the neck is usually a bit bigger.

Also don't forget if you start on electirc you'd probably want to get an amp too. $$$$
